Boston bombers – media just doesn’t get it

the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.

The information is still coming in.  Most of the facts regarding the movements of the two Boston Marathon bombers leading up to the attack is weeks, if not months away.  The media seems to be at a lost in trying to explain how the Tsarnaev brothers could become radicalized and their motivation.

The disconnect is the mistaken attempt by reporters and news contributors to link the bombing directly with political turmoil between Russia and Chechnya.

The term “Islam” is rarely being used, but “radicalization” seems to be making the rounds on the various networks.  The neat labels of “domestic” and “foreign” are trying to be applied.  Looking for an elusive “international cell” seems to be a media focus  – and  there lies the problem with the reporting.

Much of the Western mindset has a conceptual problem with three main factors of the Islamic Jihad:

  • Islam/Muslim is not a racial classification.  Muslims come in all races, shapes and sizes.  To associate a Muslim as Middle Eastern is a mistake.
  • The Islamic Jihad is global in scale and not based on sovereign borders.  The only allegiance is to Allah and Islam.
  •  The goal is to destroy the basic foundations of Western civilization and replace it with a Sharia based system.   It is about fighting anything that does not follow the tenets, ideology, etc of Islam.  There is no negotiation or compromise with this goal.

As this story develops, the inability of the media to grasp and understand the above is repeatedly demonstrated.  Throw in the concern of being politically correct, brings us to the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.

What a shocker.

The media needs to step outside the box and throw out the domestic and foreign labels.   These groups are financially backed on a global level.  Support and guidance provided by domestic groups such as ICNA and ISNA.   The five American students arrested in Pakistan were most likely recruited through youth programs in Alexandria, VA.  ICNA has an established history of radical indoctrination programs.

One cannot understand the rational of Islamic terrorist acts without acknowledging the true jihadist mindset.  Political correctness does not mix well with reality.

Boston Imans’ Catch-22

… compelled to follow the jihadist agenda  imposed by Wahhabi pressures, but in doing so risk impacting the established financial apparatus created in America that is critical in furthering the global Islamic agenda.

Today’s Metro Section of the Boston Globe featured, Grief is mixed with dread for Boston imams – Metro – The Boston Globe by Yvonne Abraham. She reports on the concerns of Boston area imans that the bombing suspect(s) may be  Muslim.

They should be concerned.

A number of mosques and imans in America provide a domestic support network to terrorists operating in the United States.  Law enforcement and counter-terror experts are well aware of this, yet Muslim special interest groups consistently impede terror investigations and urge Muslims to not cooperate with authorities in said investigations.

Imans in large U.S. metropolitan areas face a catch-22 when dealing with domestic terror incidents.  Many are compelled to follow the jihadist agenda    imposed by Wahhabi pressures, but in doing so risk impacting the established financial apparatus created in America that is critical in furthering the global Islamic agenda.  In order to win the PR battle and maintain access to city power brokers, they need to present a public image of what is best described as “Islam Lite”.

It can be a tough balancing act.

The Boston bombing is still under investigation.  A Muslim connection has not been officially reported but the leaked/released photographs of possible suspects is weighing in that direction.  The Islamic community is keenly aware of the impact.

If a Muslim connection is confirmed, it will certainly test the effectiveness of CAIR’s Islamophobia project while providing questionable material for the #myjihad campaign.

Boston bombing – few details

Way too early to make any conclusions on this one … only sure bet is realizing that there are people who simply want to kill us – there is no negotiating.

It has been about 24 hours since the bombing attacks in Boston and the public really does not know much more than the fact that two bombs went off.  No obvious suspects or motive.  Here’s what to expect in the next few days:

The Media

The news cycle continues, and the news outlets are desperate for details that simply are not available. Having a viewer-ship that has become accustomed to instant information – which is not available – is not good for ratings.  Fancy graphics with dramatic music has limited impact.

Viewers are being subject to ad nauseum replays of one of several videos of the explosions, along with much speculation by so-called “expert” news contributers/analysts.  These talking heads are, for the most part, “out-of-the-loop” at this stage of the investigation despite claims of having inside sources.  Many are playing the media “crapshoot”, hoping for a big win to garner future appearances (i.e. work).

In the effort to report breaking news, misinformation will be frequent and reports “walked back”

For additional filler, human interest stories are being plastered on all the networks in an effort to tug at viewers hearts and provide a distraction from the void of reportable facts.  “Heart-wrenching” will be heard frequently.

The Politicians

It’s too early to use this attack for political gain so they are pretty much limited to providing sound bites containing empty phrases about how wonderful the first responders are, highlighting the heroes of the moment and how the American people are resilient.  Rest assured, they are biting at the bit to get face time and political traction from this event.  Nature of the beast.

The Investigation

Following the terrorist attacks of September 2001, the need for multi-agency cooperation at all levels was identified and addressed.  Regional Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) were expanded with fusion centers that bring representatives from local, state and federal agencies into efficient working relationships that expedite efforts and minimize some of the turf wars.  With this incident being so high-profile, the pressure for answers and results is immense.  That being said, any release or controlled leak of information will be limited and carefully scrutinize before reaching the intended audience.

At this point, expect news conferences to be limited to mostly “mutual admiration” statements by officials regarding how well everyone is working together.  This will only change when a major/solid lead is developed.  Short of a firm human source developed lead, much of the investigative emphasis will be on physical evidence.  Processing exploded bomb evidence is a meticulous process and heavily time consuming.

It should be noted that the investigative focus is a high priority, but most high-ranking officials/supervisory agents reached that level with some political influence.  This case will impact careers and it’s management will be handled accordingly.  An effective terrorism investigation involves stepping on toes.  One can only hope that the past bending to political correctness does not hamper this investigation and any hand slapping is saved for after answers and most of the facts are collected.

∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

Conclusion:  Way too early to make any conclusions on this one. Odds favor some tie to radical Islam, but that is just that – playing the odds. The only sure bet is realizing that there are evil people who simply want to kill us – there is no negotiating.

Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame to honor Hamas / Hezbollah supporter

Osama Siblani, publisher of  The Arab American News in Dearborn, MI, is scheduled to be inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame on April 21, 2013.  According to the organization’s website,  it “recognizes reporters, editors, publishers, owners, photographers, broadcasters, educators, and others who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.”     Past inductees have included White House Correspondent Helen Thomas.

Siblani  has a well documented history of endorsing the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah.  During an August 2006 pro-Hezbollah  rally in Washington D.C., Siblani called then President Bush a terrorist for supporting Israel.  In an interview with NPR in 2006, Siblani again voiced his support Hezbollah.  In a CBN report about Imam Elahi, Siblani praised Elahi and stated (7:52 on video counter) that Hamas and Hezbollah were not terrorist groups – they were “freedom fighters”.  It should be noted that Iman Elahi is a Hezbollah apologist with strong ties to Iran.  This is a logical association since Hezbollah receives considerable support from the Iranian government.

On June 15, 1985, Hezbollah hijackers seized TWA Flight 847 On board the flight was Robert Dean Stethem,  an American serviceman.  The hijackers brutally beat and tortured the 23-year-old Stethem to death. They threw his body off the plane onto the tarmac of Beirut International Airport. Stethem was so badly beaten that he could only be identified from fingerprints. He was on his way home after a tour of duty with the US Navy in the Middle East.

Hezbollah was also responsible for the two 1983 bombings in Beirut, Lebanon. The first was in April 1983 at the U.S. Embassy which resulted in the deaths of 63 people – 17 were Americans.  The second was in August 1983 at the U.S. Marine barracks and killed 241 American servicemen.

A recent article in the Arab American News describes many of Siblani’s achievements but makes no mention of his outspoken support for the above mentioned terror groups.

The 2013 Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame Hall  is sponsored by Ford Motor Company Public RelationsToyota and Truscott Rossman (MI lobbying and PR firm).

Accused Islamic terror supporter featured speaker to Detroit Muslim youth

“Both the president and the secretary of state have made it clear that the U.S. government is pursuing a new relationship with Muslim communities based on mutual interest and mutual respect.” — State Department spokesman Darby Holladay

Tariq Ramadan to visit Detroit MuslimFest

From Arab American News
April 4, 2013

DEARBORN – Tariq Ramadan will be the keynote speaker on April 11 in Detroit. He will address a Sound Vision benefit speaking on the topic of “Jihad within young hearts: Toward positive engagement.” The event organizer, Sound Vision, says that young Muslims today face tremendous pressures. These pressures arise from a variety of sources: adjusting to a culture different from their parents’ culture, living and working in environments often hostile to Islamic values, facing outright prejudice that results from the constant negative portrayal of Muslims in the media.

Muslim youth are among the least happy and the most angry among American youth groups, according to one Gallup poll; 16% of Muslim youth participate in binge drinking; and 29% use some other name to hide their faith.

Speaking for Sound Vision, Quaid Saifee said that the April 11 benefit offers multimedia presentations on these topics along with what is being slated as a MiniMuslimFest. It will feature a live Adam mascot which is the main character in the children’s Adam’s World series produced by Sound Vision. The Sunday event will take place at Burton Manor in Livonia, MI.

This is the first time Tariq Ramadan will be visiting the Detroit area. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently ended the U.S. visa ban on Ramadan allowing him to enter the country. State Department spokesman Darby Holladay said “Both the president and the secretary of state have made it clear that the U.S. government is pursuing a new relationship with Muslim communities based on mutual interest and mutual respect.”

COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Tariq Ramadan had his U.S. work visa revoked  by the Department of Homeland Security in 2004.  DHS spokesman, Russ Knocke explained this had been done in accord with a law that denies entry to aliens who have used a “position of prominence within any country to endorse or espouse terrorist activity.” According to Mr. Knocke, it  was based on “public safety or national security interests.”  As indicated in the above article, the visa ban was removed by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2010.

Ramadan is a Swiss-born philosophy professor and Islamic lecturer.   His maternal grandfather was Hasan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB).  His father was Said Ramadan, a major MB figure in Egypt who fled to Switzerland in the late 1950s.

When addressing western audiences, Tariq Ramadan presents a moderate depiction of Islam.  In 2011, The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report (GMBDR) wrote Ramadan wanted to reassure the west that, “concerns about the Muslim Brotherhood waiting in the wings to impose Islamist regimes in Egypt and Tunisia are overblown.”    In front of Arab speaking audiences, it’s reported that he “he vents his deep-seated hatred of the West and his endorsement of Wahhabism, the most extreme form of Islam” .

In her 2004 book, Brother Tariq: The Doublespeak of Tarik Ramadan, French feminest Caroline Fourest analyzes Ramadan’s writings and audio tapes.  She concludes that he is not a promoter of peace, but rather a “war leader” and the “political heir of his grandfather.”

To have Tariq Ramadan plant his philosophy and radical Islamist teachings in the minds of young American Muslims (a group the article identifies as being troubled) is disquieting.  The MB agenda has recognized the advantages of working through young, impressionable minds in order to achieve its stated goals.  The event organizer, Sound Vision has been employing this tactic for a number of years.

Event details: http://www.soundvision.com/TariqRamadan/Home.html

Side note: The president of Sound Vision is Abdul Malik Muhajid, former CAIR Chicago Chairperson.  He is reported to be the national coordinator of the Bosnia (Kosovo) Task Force, an organization composed of 16 Islamic special interest groups. The organization is suspected to have  ties to the Benevolence International Foundation, a fund raising front for Al Qaeda.  Several of the group members were named unindicted co-conspirators  in the terror-finance trial against the Holy Land Foundation.

Backroom deal suspected as Turkish agent buys foreclosed Gulen school property

Money Jihad

In 2012, the Atlanta-area Fulton Science Academy (FSA) borrowed $19 million to buy land to expand their campus.  FSA quickly defaulted, and Wells Fargo sued them.  On Feb. 5, the land was sold at a foreclosure auction for $3.2 million according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Foreclosure auction of Fulton Science Academy property

The winning bidder?  A recently incorporated company called “TruGlobe,” with three Turkish officers, who were somehow able to come up with over $3 million on the day of the foreclosure sale, at which cash or cashier’s checks are normally required as immediate payment.

Both the Fulton Science Academy and TruGlobe have addresses in Alpharetta, Georgia.  The similarities between the entities indicate probable collusion between the Gulen charter school and the winning bidder prior to the sale.  It is worth noting that bid rigging at foreclosure auctions is a growth area for criminal activity.

AP Submits to Islamic Political Correctness

“We believe this revision is a step in the right direction and will result in fewer negative generalizations in coverage of issues related to Islam and Muslims,…”
– Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR’s communications director

The Associated Press Revises Another Politically Charged Term

Stylebook entry for ‘Islamist’ revised two days after ‘illegal immigrant’ dropped

From U.S. News and Special Report
By Steven Nelson, April 4, 2013

Following on the heels of the Tuesday decision by The Associated Press to discontinue use of the term “illegal immigrant,” the news agency on Thursday revised its stylebook entry for another politically charged term.

The term “Islamist,” the AP clarified in a Thursday afternoon alert to online stylebook subscribers, should not be used as “a synonym for Islamic fighters, militants, extremists or radicals.”

“Islamist” is frequently used as a label for conservative Islamic political movements, particularly Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, the group’s Palestinian offshoot. It generally carries a negative connotation.

The AP first added the term to its stylebook in 2012. The definition initially read:

Supporter of government in accord with the laws of Islam. Those who view the Quran as a political model encompass a wide range of Muslims, from mainstream politicians to militants known as jihadi.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, an American advocacy group sometimes labeled “Islamist” by critics, previously lobbied for the AP to drop the term. In a January op-ed CAIR’s communications director, Ibrahim Hooper, wrote the term “has become shorthand for ‘Muslims we don’t like'” and “is currently used in an almost exclusively pejorative context.”

As of Thursday’s update, the AP definition reads:

An advocate or supporter of a political movement that favors reordering government and society in accordance with laws prescribed by Islam. Do not use as a synonym for Islamic fighters, militants, extremists or radicals, who may or may not be Islamists.

Where possible, be specific and use the name of militant affiliations: al-Qaida-linked, Hezbollah, Taliban, etc. Those who view the Quran as a political model encompass a wide range of Muslims, from mainstream politicians to militants known as jihadi.

CAIR praised the AP’s update. “We believe this revision is a step in the right direction and will result in fewer negative generalizations in coverage of issues related to Islam and Muslims,” Hooper said. “The key issue with the term ‘Islamist’ is not its continued use; the issue is its use almost exclusively as an ill-defined pejorative.”

COMMENT/ANALYSIS:  This action comes on the heels of AP’s decision to discontinue “illegal immigrant”, part of the company move to rid itself of labels. Getting approval from CAIR is hardly shocking.   CAIR has been on a campaign to redefine the media’s use of the term for some time and it would be safe to assume that AP simply capitulated to “Islamist” pressure. The gross hypocrisy is CAIR’s frequent labeling of “Islamophobia” to any group/person that questions or criticizes the Islamic agenda.

It should be noted that CAIR did not take up issue with AP linking “militant” with “jihadi” in the revised definition even through it conflicts with the My Jihad PR campaign.

Muslim Students Assoc, Univ. of Maine follow-up

The Islamic Center features Islam and terrorism – Bangor Maine post (March 22, 2013) resulted in an interesting email from someone stating to be the current president of the Muslim Student Association at the University of Maine:

Name: Nabeel Hashmi
Email: *******@gmail.com
Comment: Hi, my name is Nabeel Hashmi. I am the current president of the Muslim Student Association at the University of Maine. I am a life-long resident of Maine, a part-time fire-fighter, and a full-time student. Although I completely respect your opinion and would in fact, encourage you to represent your opinions, I would like to point out a factual error in your recent article. I completely understand your frustrations, but I would like to point out that our organization is a small one which is not associated with the Muslim Brotherhood at all. We were self-created, local, and were created under the student government. In fact, we constantly work with the “Christian Crusaders” on campus. Again, I would be happy to agree to disagree, but we are not tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. Please let me know if you would be willing to make the correction.

Best,
Nabeel

Our reply:

Dear Nabeel,

Thank you for writing.

Our post of “Islamic Center features Islam and terrorism – Bangor Maine (March 22, 2013)” makes no mention that the Muslim Student Association at the University of Maine is associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. What exactly is the information you are requesting be reviewed for possible correction?

Your assertion that the UMaineMSA is a small local group is quite disingenuous.  There are approximately 600 chapters of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) in North America.  Of those, 150 are directly affiliated with MSA National.  Your organization’s website (http://umaine.edu/msa/) acknowledges that it is part of the national MSA and the national MSA website lists (http://msanational.org/2012-2013-affiliated-chapters-list/) your organization as an affiliated chapter.

As for MSA National, it has a well documented history of involvement with the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood (MB).

Sincerely,

C.J.

Still waiting for a reply back with clarification regarding what he wanted corrected.  Apparently similar emails were sent out to other websites/blogs.

It should be noted that the University of Maine  and the Orono area have a history of Muslim Brotherhood activity dating back to at least the 1990s. Then Muslim Brotherhood leader,  Dr. Ahmed Elkadi , dispatched Khalil I. Jassemm to the University as a visiting professor, sponsored by Elkadi’s Institute of Islamic Medicine for Education and Research Panama City, FL.  Jassemm is better known as the founder (1992) and former President/Chief Executive Officer of Life for Relief & Development, and author of several Muslim charity books.

Political Correctness in Legoland

“This sort of thing does not belong in a child’s bedroom, … The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists.” — Melissa Gunes, spokeswoman for Austria’s Turkish Cultural Association

Report: Lego To Stop Production Of ‘Star Wars’ Set Due To Anti-Muslim Backlash

From Report: Lego To Stop Production Of ‘Star Wars’ Set Due To Anti-Muslim Backlash « CBS Connecticut
April 1, 2013

ENFIELD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) — Lego will reportedly cease production of a popular “Star Wars” toy set after Muslim communities complained about the product.

The Independent reports that several Muslim groups in Austria claimed “Jabba’s Palace” was anti-Muslim as it showed popular “Star Wars” character Jabba the Hut in a mosque-like lair with a hookah, guns and an imprisoned Chewbacca.

“This sort of thing does not belong in a child’s bedroom,” Melissa Gunes, spokeswoman for Austria’s Turkish Cultural Association, told The Independent. “The game is pedagogical dynamite. It depicts Muslims as terrorists”

“Jabba’s Palace” Lego set. (credit: Lego)

RT News reports that Muslim critics felt “Jabba’s Palace” looked like the Hagia Sophia and the Jami al-Kabir mosques.

“We are very grateful and congratulate Lego on the decision to take Jabba’s Palace out of production,” Birol Killic, president of the Turkish Cultural Association, told RT News.

The uprising against the Lego set began earlier this year when a father in Austria’s Islamic community found that his sister bought it as a present for his son, according to The Independent.

Lego originally fought back against the claims that “Jabba’s Palace” was anti-Muslim but will now reportedly stop production of the set in 2014.

Jabba the Hut was first introduced in “Return of the Jedi” in 1983 and the Lego set first hit shelves in 2012.

CBS Connecticut has reached out to Lego for comment.

COMMENT/ANALYSIS
: This is just another example of using political correctness to shape public opinion and by wielding the sword of imagined “Islamophobia“.  It’s doubtful that the scenery surrounding the Jabba character, brought to the screen by George Lucas in 1983, was some subliminal mechanism to smear Muslims.  It’s a sad commentary that the Lego company capitulated, but not surprising as efforts gain ground to make being “Muslim” a protected class in Western society.  Those in the U.S. should take note that this matter originated in Europe — a very significant factor to this story.

Instead of focusing on what is in the local “Toys R Us”, maybe Islamic special interest groups should address the terrorist acts financed and committed by Muslims in the name of Islam.
