Boston Bombing: Start the Islamic Apologist Tour

Fareed Zakaria, Editor, Newsweek International...

Fareed Zakaria

Several weeks ago we indicated that following the Boston bombing there would be calls to embrace the U.S. Muslim community to help prevent future incidents – implying Muslims are essentially victims.  CAIR has confirmed the agenda and now CNN’s Fareed Zakaria has contributed to the misdirection campaign.

In an Apr 24, 2013 Washington Post article (also in Lebanon’s Daily Star), Zakaria attempts to explain away the actions of the Tsarnaev brothers as “just two alienated youths who turned toward hate and then, allegedly, to murder.”

Mr. Zakaria:

Since 9/11, foreign-inspired terrorism has claimed about two dozen lives in the United States. (Meanwhile, more than 100,000 have been killed in gun homicides and more than 400,000 in motor-vehicle accidents.) One crucial reason the number of terrorism deaths is so low is that America does not have large pools of alienated immigrants. Polls repeatedly have shown that Muslim immigrants to the U.S. embrace core American values. The American assimilation machine continues to function well.

Citing that alienation is a major factor in terror attacks, Mr. Zakaria practically dismisses any possibility that it was related to an Islamic jihad.  He also forgets to mention the effectiveness of our law enforcement efforts to thwart at least 50 Islamic based attempted terror attacks since 9/11.  These are the ones that are publicly known and at least 42 could be considered homegrown terror plots.

According to Mr. Zakaria, until fairly recently Europe’s problem with terrorism stemmed from a policy of indifference towards Muslims.  This has changed with governments engaging the Muslim communities and “creating Islamic councils, providing funding for cultural activities, offering representation in public forums and being mindful of religious practices and holidays.”  He points out:

And while it is premature to declare any great successes, it’s worth noting that attacks crediting radical Islam appear to have leveled off or declined in recent years.

The lesson from Europe appears to be: Embrace Muslim communities. That’s a conclusion U.S. law enforcement agencies would confirm. The better the relationship with local Muslim groups, the more likely they are to provide useful information about potential jihadists.

This was a similar message promoted by Islamic special interest groups following the 9/11 attacks.  As we’ve noted in other articles, the bill of goods sold resulted in Islamists gaining considerable influence over U.S. Justice Department operations and foreign policy decisions.

In summary, Mr. Zakaria does not see the terrorist threat we face being driven by an  Islamic ideology.  It is the west’s failure to embrace the Muslim community causing them to feel alienated.  Versions of this theme will be heard in the media with increasing frequency over the weeks to come.  There are two objectives to this tactic:  provide distance in the relationship of how Islam influenced the Tsarnaev brothers and push the concept of victim-hood for Muslims to gain sympathy/influence with the populace.

Despite Mr. Zakaria’s attempt to paint Islamic terrorists as  misunderstood victims of society,  he has actually highlighted the true message behind Islamic terrorism:

Appeasement  – submit to our concessions or we will kill you.
