Museum of Islam Planned for Mosque Site Near WTC

The developer who once proposed a mosque and Muslim community center near ground zero now plans a museum devoted to Islam at the same site.
Sharif El-Gamal said in a statement he wants to build a three-story museum “dedicated to exploring the faith of Islam and its arts and culture.”
He said he commissioned French architect Jean Nouvel to design a 5,000-square-foot museum. The building also would include a sanctuary for prayer services and community programs.
It’s unclear how El-Gamal would fund the project.
Spokesman Hank Sheinkopf would only say that El-Gamal would initially finance it himself and hoped to find other benefactors.
No timetable was given.
Buildings at 45 Park Place and 51 Park Place, two blocks from the World Trade Center site, would need to be demolished first.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: And CAIR, along with other Muslim groups, complain about a documentary that might offend visiting Muslims. Apparently offending 9/11 families is not a concern.
We recently posted Pres. Obama’s Malaysian Muslim Misstep, mentioning how sharia law poses an impact to non-Muslims in Malaysia.
Creeping Sharia just highlighted a related story in Indonesia:
Thanks to all those who helped rebuild Aceh into a sharia state after the tsunami. via Sharia law to apply to non-Muslims in Aceh – khabarsoutheastasia.com.
Non-Muslims can be prosecuted under Sharia law in Aceh if they participate with Muslims in offenses not regulated by Indonesian criminal law, under a new bylaw passed in the province late last year.
The controversial clause is contained in the Qanun Hukum Acara Jinayat (QHAJ), Islamic criminal procedure codes, passed by the regional House of Representatives (DPRA) on December 13th, 2013.
The clause pertains to “a violation committed jointly by two or more people, among them non-Muslims”, according to a copy of the bylaw obtained by Khabar Southeast Asia.
It also states that non-Muslims who are arrested can choose to be prosecuted in a Sharia court or a state court. But if the violation is not regulated by Indonesian criminal law, the non-Muslim will be prosecuted in Sharia court.
The new bylaws authorise Sharia police, prosecutors and judges to detain violators for 15 to 60 days if an investigation, trial or sentence warrants it. Until now, Sharia enforcement officials have only been permitted to arrest and briefly detain violators for counselling on Sharia norms. They have not had authority to put them in jail.
Last year, Mohshin Habib noted in a Gatestone Institute article, “Western leaders need to understand that Indonesia, under its current government, can no longer be labeled a Muslim country that is risk-free for religious minorities.”
This has become a disturbing trend in Southeast Asia and other Pacific areas and is likely to spread.
The following is from a 2013 Pew Research Project – the focus was on selected countries with significant Muslim populations.

Hudud punishments include execution
amputations and flogging.
With Malaysia’s Muslim majority,
hudud is likely to be put in place.
In glancing over mainstream news headlines of President Obama’s trip to Malaysia, one may get the impression that this majority Muslim country is advanced with only a few social issues that need to be addressed. A recent Washington Post article reported that Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak told President Obama:
“Today, Mr. President, you see not rubber trees, as Lyndon B. Johnson did, but soaring skyscrapers. They are a testament to the transformation that is taking place here in Malaysia,” Najib said. “We are a modern, progressive Muslim majority nation, a multiethnic, multi-religious society.”
The article continues, citing President Obama’s view that the two leaders shared ..
“… the respect for freedom of assembly, the respect for people of different races and different faiths and different political philosophies — that those values are at the core of who the U.S. is, but also I think are a pretty good gauge of whether a society is going to be successful in the 21st century or not.”
The media also reported on President Obama’s visit to Malaysia’s nation mosque with one religious leader saying:
““There can be no better way for Obama to honour Islam than by visiting Masjid Negara”
And with that, we have a troubling disconnect with the U.S.President’s trip.
Having the U.S. President “honour” Islam in Malaysia may not be the most prudent action at this time. The country’s legal system appears to be expanding towards sharia even though, under current Malaysian law, sharia courts only have jurisdiction over Muslims concerning certain civil matters. For example:
- There was a Malaysian appeals court ruling in October 2013 finding that a Roman Catholic Church newspaper could not use the Arabic word “Allah” to refer to God because that phrase was reserved for Muslims.
- The Malaysian state of Kelantan is currently having a heated debate over the implementation of hudud to the penal system. Simply put, hudud punishments involve fixed sentencing for designated crimes. Hudud punishments include execution by sword/crucifixion/stoning, amputations and flogging. With Malaysia’s Muslim majority, hudud is likely to be put in place.
- This past March, a Christian woman was convicted by a sharia court for khalwat (close proximity) – a violation unique to the Muslim community.
With this trend the question becomes: Should hudud be implemented, how likely will it be applied to non-Muslims?
Side Note: Malaysia’s increase towards sharia influences follows that of others in the region as we reported in Brunei moves to full Sharia
Having a dinner featuring spiritual
leaders that support bombings is an
interesting way to promote the
“religion of peace”
The Chicago chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS) held it’s annual dinner on April 27, 2014 at the convention center in Tinley Park, IL.
As reported by the The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch, MAS has been identified as a part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and closely tied to the Egyptian organization.
- Zaid Shakir– co-founder of Zaytuna College and one of it’s senior faculty members. Born Ricky Mitchell, he converted to Islam while serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1977. A very popular speaker on the U.S. Islamic circuit, Shakir has frequently defended the terrorist actions of Hizballah and is prone to conspiracy theories. He is one of the speakers on a featured video promoting MPAC’s Safe Spaces Initiative.
- Jamal Said – Iman and director of the Mosque Foundation (Bridgeview Mosque, IL) , he was one of the unindicted co-c0nspirators of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) Hamas financing trial. A Feb 2004 Chicago Tribune article highlights his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and states that his hardline approach drove out many moderate Muslims from the mosque. The article further describes how Jamal Said raised money for convicted terror fundraiser Sami Al-Arian.
- Kifah Mustapha – Iman and associate director of the Mosque Foundation. As another named HLF unindicted co-conspirators, Mustapha made headlines in 2010 when his invitation to serve as the first Muslim chaplain for the Illinois State Police was rescinded. Reason – a history of fundraising for Hamas. While the media was quick to cite that Mustapha committed no crime, they failed to mention FBI testimony and video of Mustapha singing songs at HLF events that glorified Hamas and killing Jews. Probably not the best image to associate with a law enforcement agency.
COMMENTS/ANALYSIS: Missing from last year’s line-up: Dr. Amjad Qourshah. Dr. Qourshah’s Facebook post in Aaugust 2013, where he attacked Christians was apparently still too fresh an incident. Having a dinner featuring spiritual leaders that support bombings is an interesting way to promote the “religion of peace”.
I was born and raised in South Jersey so this news from Catholic Charities interested me. But, it also serves as an opportunity for me to discuss something that I’ve found troubling of late.
For several years (RRW began in 2007) it was easy enough to find statistics on how many refugees and from what country were being placed in what towns and cities during a given time period. Those data bases are impossible to find now. Maybe not ‘impossible’ if one has enormous time to search, but I do believe the federal government is making it more challenging for citizens to find information on the numbers and nationalities of refugees being resettled in specific locations.
Justice for the taxpayers too?
So, it was interesting to me to see what Catholic Charities is saying about the demographic/social/economic changes they are bringing to South Jersey.

… much depends on Britain discarding political correctness and embracing a mentality of … “enough is enough!
We first ventured into the topic of the Islamist issue in the United Kingdom with the July 2013 article, “Britain’s Muslim Mess – a head in the sand policy“. It came at the heels of the Boston Bombing and the brutal murder of British solider, Lee Rigby, on a Woolwich street.
In April 2014, we highlighted, “Nottingham UK: Islam’s Creep and Effect” – a personal account describing the changes seen by a resident as Islamic influences, spearheaded by Muslim immigrants, take hold of his neighborhood.
It is probably safe to say that most Britons are starting to reach their limit, or exceeded it, as they watch their surroundings morph into a society that places the religious demands of a minority above their own individual rights as citizens. Much of the blame can be placed on their leaders and politicians – the people responsible for what amounts to open door immigration and looking the other way while Islamists promote subversive activities.
These leaders and politicians may be waking up … or at least feeling pressure from the people they represent.
Back in 2001, in a speech concerning operations in Afghanistan, then British Prime Minister Tony Blair stated:
“It angers me, as it angers the vast majority of Muslims, to hear bin Laden and his associates described as Islamic terrorists. They are terrorist pure and simple. Islam is a peaceful and tolerant religion and the acts of these people are wholly contrary to the teachings of the Koran.”
His words mirrored those of many western leaders at the time, including President G.W. Bush.
By 2013, Mr. Blair’s view’s toward Islam had definitely changed. While still trying to walk the politically correct line and not condemn the entire religion, he wrote in a column:
“There is a problem within Islam – from the adherents of an ideology which is a strain within Islam,’ … ‘We have to put it on the table and be honest about it. Of course there are Christian extremists and Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu ones. But I am afraid this strain is not the province of a few extremists. It has at its heart a view about religion and about the interaction between religion and politics that is not compatible with pluralistic, liberal, open-minded societies.”
On April 23, 2014, Mr. Blair delivered a speech at Bloomberg. It focused on Islamic extremism in the Middle East, but included the following:
“The Muslim population in Europe is now over 40m and growing. The Muslim Brotherhood and other organisations are increasingly active and they operate without much investigation or constraint. Recent controversy over schools in Birmingham (and similar allegations in France) show heightened levels of concern about Islamist penetration of our own societies.”
This statement is significant, especially the reference to Birmingham – also known as the Trojan Horse investigation – a stark contrast from earlier comments. Ever the politician and most likely fearing being labelled an islamaphobe, Blair tempered himself with:
“At this point it must again be emphasised: it is not Islam itself that gives rise to this ideology. It is an interpretation of Islam, actually a perversion of it which many Muslims abhor. There used to be such interpretations of Christianity which took us years to eradicate from our mainstream politics.”
Oh well, he was on a roll …
Still, Britain’s political leaders may actually be heading in a direction to reclaim their country.
- In February 2011, during a security conference in Munich, PM David Cameron condemned the long-standing policy of multiculturalism as a failure. Stating it was partly to blame for promoting Islamist extremism. The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) criticized the speech, calling it as “disappointing”. The MCB has been identified as tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.
- In March 2014, PM David Cameron ordered an investigation into the Muslim Brotherhood and it’s links to violent extremism.
- On April 24th Sharia Watch UK was launched at the House of Lords to highlight the impact of Islamism in Britain.
Is this momentum enough to counter the threat posed by the Islamists’ agenda? Difficult to say and much depends on Britain discarding political correctness and embracing a mentality of … “enough is enough!”.

One must consider context with bumper stickers. One sticker is a hint. A cluster offers a clearer indication of what the vehicle’s owner thinks. “Question Authority” is often found next to “Obama/Biden,” and “Love Your Mother” with an earth for the O, and “COEXIST” with the Islamic crescent for the C, a peace sign for the O, and so forth. The vehicle is usually a Volvo or Prius owned by a greenie Democrat careful to be politically correct in everything said.
Political correctness is largely self-imposed and I don’t do it. Regular readers know this. Most Americans self-censor though, and that has implications for me in casual conversation with family, friends, and acquaintances. I don’t go out of my way to make others uncomfortable by stating my opinions, and lately I prefer to remain silent until asked for input. I get forum enough publishing a weekly column in this space.
I’m seeing a fearful trend lately, however, and I do mean fearful. Political correctness is being imposed. Just this month Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a woman I greatly admire, was offered and honorary degree at Brandeis University in Massachusetts. Then the offer was withdrawn after pressure from a terrorist-funding organization called CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations.
CAIR was named an un-indicted coconspirator in the Holy Land terrorist funding trial. While it poses as a civil rights organization, its clandestine purpose is to funnel money and support to radical Muslim groups like Hamas, which is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and killing of every Jew there, among other horrific things. Islam also tacitly accepts genital mutilation of girls, and this was done to Hirsi Ali in Somalia when she was very young.
Islam tacitly accepts forced marriage too, as Hirsi Ali’s father tried with her. She was supposed to marry an older, male relative in Canada, but she got off in Amsterdam where she was to board a connecting flight and was granted asylum. She was eventually elected to Dutch Parliament and produced a movie called “Submission” with Theo Van Gogh, grandnephew of the famous painter. The film depicted Muslim male violence against women, something about which Hirsi Ali had first-hand knowledge. For making Submission, Van Gogh was murdered on the streets of Amsterdam by a Muslim terrorist. A note was pinned to his body with a dagger promising Hirsi Ali would be next. Ever since, she’s had armed guards around her 24-7.
Hirsi Ali doesn’t support coexistence with Islam because if its treatment of women, and out of fear of being labeled “Islamophobic” by CAIR, Brandeis disinvited her. “Islamophobic” means “irrational fear of Islam,” but Hirsi Ali’s fear is anything but irrational given Islam’s fatwa against her. A Jewish university like Brandeis would be irrational for not fearing an organization like CAIR that raises funds for Hamas, which pledges to kill Jews and Christians “to the last one.” So why did Brandeis cave? Was it fear of CAIR, or fear of being seen as politically incorrect by the rest of academia? Looks like both to this writer.
COMMENT: Stumbled on this – please click on the link to read it in its entirety. Interesting food for thought to share. Have to add one thing. Muslims in the U.S. make up less than 1% of the population … at last count 0.6%! The Islamist activists would represent a faction of that , yet their voice is strong, loud and most of all – feared. Why?
“… would greatly offend our local Muslim believers as well as any foreign Muslim visitor to the museum.”

9/11 museum film draws heat for portrayal of Islam
By Associated Press, Updated: Thursday, April 24, 2:06 PM
NEW YORK — A film that will be shown at the National September 11 Memorial Museum when it opens next month unfairly links Islam and terrorism, clergy members said in letters demanding it be changed.
“The Rise of Al Qaeda,” a brief documentary narrated by NBC anchor Brian Williams, shows the growth of international terrorist groups in the years leading up to the 2001 attacks. The film has not been publicly released, but museum officials have screened it for groups including an interfaith clergy advisory panel.
Members of the clergy group sent a letter to museum officials this week asking that the film be re-edited to make it clear that not all Muslims support the terrorists who destroyed the World Trade Center.
“We continue to posit that the video may very well leave viewers with the impression that all Muslims bear some collective guilt or responsibility for the actions of al-Qaida, or even misinterpret its content to justify bigotry or even violence toward Muslims or those perceived to be Muslim (e.g., Sikhs),” the clergy members wrote. The signers included Peter B. Gudaitis, chief executive of New York Disaster Interfaith Services, and the Rev. Chloe Breyer, executive director of the Interfaith Center of New York.
Officials at the Sept. 11 museum, which opens May 21 at the trade center site, said the film doesn’t suggest that all Muslims are terrorists.
COMMENTS/ANALYSIS: It would be nice to one day see a simple response back to these type of complaints of, ” We really don’t care how you feel.”
