From a report by ABC/CNN:
Moore [police] said at a news conference that suspect Alton Alexander Nolen, 30, was terminated from his job at Vaughn Foods on Thursday just before the rampage occurred.
Nolen also recently had been trying to convert co-workers to Islam, [Moore police Sgt. Jeremy] Lewis said, citing investigators’ interviews with people. Moore police have asked the FBI to help them investigate the man’s background, Lewis said.
The incident happened at the Vaughn Foods processing plant in Moore, about 10 miles south of Oklahoma City.
There were no immediate indications of a link to terrorism, officials said.
COMMENT: The U.K. has seen several similar killings within the last year, but the media has been quick to downplay or not even mention the attacker’s ties to Islam. With this incident, it took over 12 hours before it hit the “news cycle” – happening on Thursday (9/25) afternoon and significant coverage not until Friday morning (9/26). We will followup with additional information as it becomes available.
