Muslim Brotherhood Speakers at 40th ICNA-MAS Convention

Baltimore, MD will be hosting the 40th Annual ICNA/MAS convention Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, 2015.

The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is part of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) network in the U.S., and was listed as an affiliated organization in the seized MB document, “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America”.   The Muslim American Society (MAS) claims to have no affiliation with the MB, but in 2004 then-Secretary General of MAS, Shaker Elsayed, was quoted as saying, “Ikhwan [Brotherhood] members founded MAS…”

This years convention is listing 26 featured speakers to include:

Imam Siraj Wahhaj –  Vice President of ISNA and the Imam of Masjid Al-Taqwa in Brookyn, New York.  Wahhaj has also held positions with the following Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organizations: North American Islamic Trust (NAIT),  the American Muslim Council (AMC) and the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA).  Wahhaj was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Naeem Baig – President of ICNA and the chairman of the American Muslim Taskforce (AMT), an umbrella body of 10 national American Muslim organizations.  According to the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch (GMBDW), “The AMT today is comprised of the most important U.S. Muslim Brotherhood organizations including the Muslim American Society (MAS). Council On American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Islamic Circle Of North America (ICNA), Islamic Society Of North America (ISNA), Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), and the Muslim Student Association (MSA).”

Dr. Jamal Badawi – a professor at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Badawi holds high level positions in a number of MB organizations.  The GMBDW notes, “Documents released during the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial indicate that he was (and probably still is), a member of the leadership structure of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.

Sh. Yusuf Islahi – a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) party of India.  In 2010 the  Investigative Report on Terrorism (IPT)  reported that JIH supports Islamic rule over politics/the economy and has backed terrorism against American troops and in the Middle East.  At the time of the report, Islahi was noted to be a member of the governing board of the JIH party of India.

Dr. Mukhtar Maghraouireported to be with the Islamic Center Boca Raton (ICBR) Maghraoui, is a  former member of the Fiqh Council of North America – an organization comprised of Islamic scholars associated with the Global Muslim Brotherhood.  A 2014 article in The Clarion Project links the ICBR to MB groups.

Sh. Abdool Rehman Khan – chairman of the Shari’ah Council of Islamic Circle of North America and a member of the Fiqh Council of North America.

Imam Suhaib Webb – Imam of the Islamic Society of Boston’s Cultural Center (ISBCC) and former education director of the Muslim American Society (MAS).    His MB ties were featured in a December 2011  GMBDW report.

Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed –  the GMBDW advises, “Yasmin Mogahed is also the sister of Dahlia Mogahed, formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama and close to Saudi-funded Georgetown Professor John Esposito, himself a long-time supporter of the Global Muslim Brotherhood. Yasmin Mogahed is a regular speaker on the Global Muslim Brotherhood speaking circuit.”

Dr. Altaf Husain – former two-term national president of the Muslim Students Association (MSA),  a current executive committee member of the Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA),  ISNA Vice President-US, and a board member of the Peaceful Families Project.  We reported in May 2015,  The Peaceful Families Project board also includes Salma Elkadi Abugideiri and Muna AbuSulayma, the daughters of two major MB leaders.

Imam Khalid Griggs– Imam of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, Associate Chaplain for Muslim Life at Wake Forest University, and Board Chair of the ICNA Council for Social Justice.  A 2012 article in the Creeping Sharia blog highlights Griggs’ radical affiliations including  being “a member of the Shura Council for the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA), an organization co-founded and led by Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.”  In  Jan 2015, the Washington Times reported about a call for a Wake Forest University donor boycott until the university addressed the 2010 hiring of Griggs and his radical ties.

Dalia Mogahed – Formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama , The IPT notes that she is “a tenacious defender of groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).”   We reported on  her scheduled June 2015 video appearance at the MSA National Retreat.

Nihad Awad – National Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington, DC..  The IPT offers a number of reports on CAIR’s link to the MB.

Nahela Alexandra Morales – leader of ICNA’s WHY-ISLAM Hispanic Outreach to Mexico.

Sr. Saadia Z. Yunus – daughter of past ICNA president (1977 – 2000), Dr. Mohammad Yunus.

Qasim Mazhar – Operations Manger for ICNA’S youth branch,  Young Muslims.

The ICNA’s Young Muslims will be holding their convention, Lost in Whispers, at the same dates and location.

Some past convention highlights:

The 2014 conference featured Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Tariq Ramada.

According to an IPT report, at the 2000 convention Tayyib Yunus, then leader of the Young Muslims  branch and son of former ICNA president Dr. Mohammad Yunus, urged ICNA members to send their children to fight in jihad:

“The youth is very important, as parents, for us to facilitate the youth. And, we all want to see our youth to succeed to become doctors, to become engineers; but how many of you can actually say that you want to send your son to Jihad, to Chechnya ? How many of you can actually say that? [Takbir! Allahu Akbar!] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your child [He begins to sob] Takbir! Allahua Akbar! Takbir! Allahua Akbar! [He cries uncontrollably now, after a delay, he begins to speak again] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your youth to fight in Jihad or to send them to Azhar or to these Islamic Institutions to become educated?” [Emphasis added]

NJ Islamic Center to host Muslim Brotherhood Shari’ah event

The Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) has a history of being associated with Islamic radicals promoting terror …

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) advises that on May 2, 2015, the Islamic Center of Passaic County (Paterson, New Jersey) will host “Understanding Shari’ah: Sacred Principles for Human Development” in collaboration with the Fiqh Council of North America.

The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch notes the following about the council:

The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) is an organization comprised of Islamic scholars associated with the Global Muslim Brotherhood. As FCNA itself acknowledges, the organization grew out of the activities of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) and later became affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), itself an outgrowth of MSA. FCNA maintains a relationship with other similar bodies in the Global Muslim Brotherhood including the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) as well as the Islamic Fiqh Academy in Saudi Arabia. Two individuals known to have been ECFR members, Jamal Badawi and Solah Soltan, are also known to have been associated with the FCNA.

Most of scheduled speakers for the May 2nd event have firmly established associations with U.S. Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organizations:

  • Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi (ISNA, NAIT)
  • Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shah (ICNA)
  • Dr. Ihsan Bagby (ISNA)
  • Br. Azhar Azeez (President of ISNA and former CAIR executive)
  • Sh. Mohammad Qatanani (HAMAS)
  • Dr. Zainab Alwani (IIIT and daughter of MB leader Taha Al-Alwani)
  • Sh. Yasir Fahmy
  • Prof. Ebrahim Moosa

ISNA – Islamic Society of North America
ICNA – Islamic Circle of North America
NAIT – North American Islamic Trust
IIIT – International Institute of Islamic Thought
CAIR – Council on American Islamic Relations

The Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) has a history of being associated with Islamic radicals promoting terror.  A 2013 Clarion Project reports:

The Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) was founded by Mohammad El-Mezain, who was convicted in 2008 for fundraising for Hamas through the Holy Land Foundation. It is led today by Imam Mohammad Qatanani, whose deportation is sought by the Department of Homeland Security.

Muhammad al-Hanooti was an imam at ICPC from 1990 to 1995.  He was president of the Islamic Association for Palestine, a pro-Hamas organization and Muslim Brotherhood front organization, from 1984 to 1986.

… [FULL ARTICLE]

In January 2014, the ICPC hosted Syrian Sheik Mohammad Rateb al-Nabulsi as part of an 11-city tour across America and co-sponsored by the Syrian American Council (SAC).   The Sheik al-Nabulsi supports suicide bombings and has labeled all Jews as combatants.

In 2014 we  reported on the lobbying efforts of SAC on Capitol Hill and its ties to the MB.

COMMENT: We wonder if the SAC had enough clout with the State Department to waive visa restrictions that deny individuals promoting hate and violence from entering the U.S..

“Historic” Day: Terror supporters mix with Congress – where was the media?

“Where was security? … We’re curious, because this two-day Islamist lobbying and political muscle flexing — dubbed “National Muslim Advocacy Day and Palestine Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill” — was organized by a radical Muslim Brotherhood umbrella group led by actual terrorism suspects.
Investors Business Daily

April 13th 2015 came and went.  For most Americans it was simply 2 days before taxes were due.

At the U.S. Congressional Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC it marked the 1st Annual National Muslim Advocacy Day.

Sponsored by the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the event reportedly featured over 280 delegates gathered from more than 20 states to meet with elected officials and congressional staffers.  According to USCMO, it was “designed to connect national, regional and state Muslim organizations [and] community members with more than one third of the U.S. House of Representatives and a half of the Senate.’

ICNA, CAIR and USCMO coined it “historic”.

Mainstream news outlets? …. well, they didn’t even report on it … at least we were unable to find any mention.  What coverage that we did find,  was primarily limited to online blogs and publications.

One unexpected report came from a leading financial source, Investors Business Daily in their editorial section:

Democrats Embrace Terror Suspects On Hill During ‘Muslim Advocacy Day’

04/20/2015 07:01 PM ET

Infiltration: Two-hundred eighty Muslim “leaders” stormed the U.S. Capitol last week, taking grip-and-grin photos with Democrats and even visiting the office of their national committee chief. Where was security?

We’re curious, because this two-day Islamist lobbying and political muscle flexing — dubbed “National Muslim Advocacy Day and Palestine Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill” — was organized by a radical Muslim Brotherhood umbrella group led by actual terrorism suspects.

At least one of them already has been behind bars, another has been the subject of both FBI and National Security Agency investigations and the rest “should be in jail, not on Capitol Hill” freely roaming the halls of American power, asserted a veteran FBI agent.

“These are leaders of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood in America,” said John Guandolo. Yet “they are moving around the nation’s Capitol freely without any fear of the FBI or anyone else arresting them.”

And that’s precisely what they lobbied against — investigation and prosecution. Hundreds of these radical Muslim “activists” fanned out across the Hill to knock on doors of members of Congress to express their opposition to anti-terrorism investigations in the Muslim community and American mosques.

USCMO’s formation as another front of the Muslim Brotherhood is fairly clear.  In it’s report on National Muslim Advocacy Day, the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch (GMBDW) noted:

In December 2014, the GMBDW was the first to report that the USCMO had announced plans to hold what was described as the first-of-its-kind National Muslim Advocacy Day. The GMBDW reported in March 2014 on the formation of the USCMO, comprised of eight US Muslim organizations most of which are part of the US Muslim Brotherhood:

The National Muslim Advocacy Day event was probably best summed up by the headline from www.westernjournalism.com with, “A Major Muslim Group Just Made A Bold Move To Gain More Power In The US Government“.

Sidenote:  The described activities were combined with “Palestine Advocacy Day” but this was not mentioned or promoted in USCMO coordinated press items.

Interfaith Dialogue: One way street to “P-E-A-C-E”

“The Christian or the Jew will be a dhimmi.
They won’t be equal with the Muslim.”

Iman Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk

On April 23, 2014, the Interfaith Dialogue: Do Not Hate Your Brother in Your Heart event was hosted by the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and presented by Cleveland Jewish News.  It featured Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk of Beachwood’s Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple and Imam Mohammed Magid of the Islamic Society of North America in Washington, DC.  The promo states that both, ” .. have been leading initiatives for interfaith dialogue for a decade and have been honored widely for collaboration between synagogue and mosque.”

The two apparently have an interesting roadshow.  In 2009, both were featured Washingtonians of the Year by Washingtonian magazine.

In RenewAmerica, columist Tabitha Korol covered the Maltz hosted event and starting off with Rabbi Nosanchuk, she wrote:

Rabbi Nosanchuk spoke first. His leadership of the Greater Cleveland Congregations, a coalition of diverse religious groups, seemed inclusive and therapeutic, but out of focus with the needs of Jews worldwide and Israel. He feigned ignorance about the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions (BDS) that is perilous for Jewish university students across the US, most egregiously on the University of California campuses, where forty protesters bullied, harassed and blocked Jewish students from entering a university administrative building; where the president of the General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) hosted an event that spoke of killing Israeli “colonizers,” and where Jewish students have been physically attacked.

Palestinian students at Boston’s Northeastern University defaced a campus menorah, disrupted Jewish events, and frightened students for a year before they were finally suspended. Thirty-nine corrupt Vassar faculty members, administration and detached citizens, signed a libelous letter supporting an academic boycott of Israel. Threats, harassment, intimidation and assaults on Jewish students are now a California tradition that is spreading across the country, yet this rabbi not aware.

Ms. Korol then continued with Mohammed Magid, noting:

Imam Mohammad Magid spoke of his family, his long friendship with the rabbi, and his leadership in ISNA, the largest Muslim organization in America. ISNA traces its1963 origin to several US and Canadian organizations, including the Muslim Student Association (MSA), whose attacks against Jewish students are infamous. In the Holy Land Foundationterrorist-financing case, ISNA, the United States Department of Justice, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and the North American Islamic Trust, were named unindicted co-conspirators and one of a number of “members of the US Muslim Brotherhood” with ties to the Islamic Association for Palestine and Hamas, extremists and terrorists.

Since October 2003, Magid and ISNA have been providing US Bureau of Prisons with extreme orthodox Wahhabi Muslim clerics who promote their radical political, ideological and theological foundation, and connecting them to 50 to 79 percent of mosques in North America. Three-quarters of “charitable” funding to ISNA supports warriors (irregular combatants – terrorists) who volunteer to fight for the Cause of Allah.

Her article pointed out that Iman Magid’s presentation during the event was filled with false narratives, yet Rabbi Nosanchuk remained silent – never challenging Iman Magid.  She wrote, ” Is Rabbi Nosanchuk bearing false witness against the Torah? His silence lends credibility to the imam’s misrepresentation.

Korol’s sums it up quite well with:

If some of the audience’s questions had substance, surely the answers did not. We heard nothing of intervention for campus harassment and boycotts; we heard nothing of 22,885 deadly Muslim terrorist attacks committed since 9/11 (to date). Does Magid consider his outreaches successful? Nosanchuk? Maltz? There may well be some who think they heard cooperation between Judaism and Islam, the “religion of peace.” Rather, they attended a step toward P-E-A-C-E, as in:

P – The Project, the Muslim Brotherhood’s 100-year mission to reclaim Islam’s manifest destiny

E – enslavement of all or death

A – acquisition of all land

C – caliphate domination

E – eternal Islam – uber alles.

COMMENTS/ANALYSIS:  Islamic interfaith programs and events in America have been on the rise.  Critics claim that most of the Christian and Jewish leaders attending have little grasp the principles of Islam, let alone the goals of the Islamic attendees/participants.    In an excellent article featured in the New Oxford review, William Kilpatrick pointed out, “It is difficult to see what benefits these faith alliances bring to Catholics, but they provide a number of benefits to Muslims. The benefit of having Catholic schools and colleges act as apologists for Islam is obvious and is, by the way, a favor that is not reciprocated in Islamic schools.”

According to a Clarion article by Ryan Mauro, during last year’s ICNA convention, Zaid Shakir told an audience of 32,000 attendees, “The Christian or the Jew will be a dhimmi [second-class citizen].They won’t be equal with the Muslim.”   CulturalJihad last mentioned Iman Shakir in Dining Jihad: MAS Chicago’s 2014 Community Dinner.

Islam “Awareness” in Wyoming

The Morocco World News and Wyoming Public Media have reported that the Muslim Student’s Association (MSA) at the University of Wyoming  is organizing it’s Annual Islam Awareness Week April 7-13, 2014.

The scheduled featured speaker is Prof. Muhammad Shakir, Co-Imam of the Islamic Center of Fort Collins, Colorado:

  • The Islamic Center of Fort Collins (ICFC) was named in a 2010 New York Times article about Anwar al-Awlaki, the American Muslim convert who later became an Al-Qaeda leader in Yemen:

” … Meanwhile, at the Islamic Center of Fort Collins, the little mosque where volunteers took turns giving the Friday sermon, Mr. Awlaki discovered a knack for preaching. If he could boast of no deep scholarship, he knew the Koran and the sayings of the prophet, spoke fluent English and had a light touch.”

The MSA at the University of Wyoming bylaws clearly spell out its affiliations with the national MSA as well as the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) and Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). The chapter has hosted a number of controversial Islamist speakers in the past.

COMMENT/ANALYSIS:  This type of open house style function is typical among many of the MSA organizations across the country. We highlighted one last year in Maine, “Islamic Center features Islam and terrorism – Bangor Maine“.  This year the Maine group’s featured speaker was Corey Saylor, from the Muslim Brotherhood front group CAIR.

As we reported in Muslim Students Assoc at LSU — connecting the dots on the Gulf Coast, several MSA members and leaders have been linked to jihadist and terror related activities.

The overall mission behind most of these awareness campaigns is to facilitate Da’wah, the proselytizing or preaching of Islam.  It is one of the roles of MSA but reason behind the campaigns is seldom promoted that way.

Boston bombers – media just doesn’t get it

the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.

The information is still coming in.  Most of the facts regarding the movements of the two Boston Marathon bombers leading up to the attack is weeks, if not months away.  The media seems to be at a lost in trying to explain how the Tsarnaev brothers could become radicalized and their motivation.

The disconnect is the mistaken attempt by reporters and news contributors to link the bombing directly with political turmoil between Russia and Chechnya.

The term “Islam” is rarely being used, but “radicalization” seems to be making the rounds on the various networks.  The neat labels of “domestic” and “foreign” are trying to be applied.  Looking for an elusive “international cell” seems to be a media focus  – and  there lies the problem with the reporting.

Much of the Western mindset has a conceptual problem with three main factors of the Islamic Jihad:

  • Islam/Muslim is not a racial classification.  Muslims come in all races, shapes and sizes.  To associate a Muslim as Middle Eastern is a mistake.
  • The Islamic Jihad is global in scale and not based on sovereign borders.  The only allegiance is to Allah and Islam.
  •  The goal is to destroy the basic foundations of Western civilization and replace it with a Sharia based system.   It is about fighting anything that does not follow the tenets, ideology, etc of Islam.  There is no negotiation or compromise with this goal.

As this story develops, the inability of the media to grasp and understand the above is repeatedly demonstrated.  Throw in the concern of being politically correct, brings us to the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.

What a shocker.

The media needs to step outside the box and throw out the domestic and foreign labels.   These groups are financially backed on a global level.  Support and guidance provided by domestic groups such as ICNA and ISNA.   The five American students arrested in Pakistan were most likely recruited through youth programs in Alexandria, VA.  ICNA has an established history of radical indoctrination programs.

One cannot understand the rational of Islamic terrorist acts without acknowledging the true jihadist mindset.  Political correctness does not mix well with reality.
