COMMENT: Security concerns over the soft underbelly of the United States have been around since the late 1970s. This report from Money Jihad indicates they are still present and a major threat.

Roger Noriega, former U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States, has presented chilling congressional testimony on the role of Venezuela in sponsoring Hezbollah in Latin America.  Roll tape:

The testimony before the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence took place in July, which snuck by us until now (h/t Eju! TV) Here are some additional key excerpts from Amb. Noriega’s written testimony:

  • Hezbollah and the Quds Force “cooperate to carry out fundraising, money-laundering schemes, narcotics smuggling, proselytization, recruitment, and training. We can identify more than 80 operatives in at least 12 countries throughout the region…”
  • Hezbollah is “is raising funds through various criminal and commercial operations, recruiting converts from among disaffected youth and others, and developing its operational capabilities in our own Hemisphere.”

Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame to honor Hamas / Hezbollah supporter

Osama Siblani, publisher of  The Arab American News in Dearborn, MI, is scheduled to be inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame on April 21, 2013.  According to the organization’s website,  it “recognizes reporters, editors, publishers, owners, photographers, broadcasters, educators, and others who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.”     Past inductees have included White House Correspondent Helen Thomas.

Siblani  has a well documented history of endorsing the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah.  During an August 2006 pro-Hezbollah  rally in Washington D.C., Siblani called then President Bush a terrorist for supporting Israel.  In an interview with NPR in 2006, Siblani again voiced his support Hezbollah.  In a CBN report about Imam Elahi, Siblani praised Elahi and stated (7:52 on video counter) that Hamas and Hezbollah were not terrorist groups – they were “freedom fighters”.  It should be noted that Iman Elahi is a Hezbollah apologist with strong ties to Iran.  This is a logical association since Hezbollah receives considerable support from the Iranian government.

On June 15, 1985, Hezbollah hijackers seized TWA Flight 847 On board the flight was Robert Dean Stethem,  an American serviceman.  The hijackers brutally beat and tortured the 23-year-old Stethem to death. They threw his body off the plane onto the tarmac of Beirut International Airport. Stethem was so badly beaten that he could only be identified from fingerprints. He was on his way home after a tour of duty with the US Navy in the Middle East.

Hezbollah was also responsible for the two 1983 bombings in Beirut, Lebanon. The first was in April 1983 at the U.S. Embassy which resulted in the deaths of 63 people – 17 were Americans.  The second was in August 1983 at the U.S. Marine barracks and killed 241 American servicemen.

A recent article in the Arab American News describes many of Siblani’s achievements but makes no mention of his outspoken support for the above mentioned terror groups.

The 2013 Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame Hall  is sponsored by Ford Motor Company Public RelationsToyota and Truscott Rossman (MI lobbying and PR firm).
