Baltimore, MD will be hosting the 40th Annual ICNA/MAS convention Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, 2015.
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is part of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) network in the U.S., and was listed as an affiliated organization in the seized MB document, “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America”. The Muslim American Society (MAS) claims to have no affiliation with the MB, but in 2004 then-Secretary General of MAS, Shaker Elsayed, was quoted as saying, “Ikhwan [Brotherhood] members founded MAS…”
This years convention is listing 26 featured speakers to include:
Imam Siraj Wahhaj – Vice President of ISNA and the Imam of Masjid Al-Taqwa in Brookyn, New York. Wahhaj has also held positions with the following Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organizations: North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), the American Muslim Council (AMC) and the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA). Wahhaj was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Naeem Baig – President of ICNA and the chairman of the American Muslim Taskforce (AMT), an umbrella body of 10 national American Muslim organizations. According to the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch (GMBDW), “The AMT today is comprised of the most important U.S. Muslim Brotherhood organizations including the Muslim American Society (MAS). Council On American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Islamic Circle Of North America (ICNA), Islamic Society Of North America (ISNA), Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), and the Muslim Student Association (MSA).”
Dr. Jamal Badawi – a professor at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Badawi holds high level positions in a number of MB organizations. The GMBDW notes, “Documents released during the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial indicate that he was (and probably still is), a member of the leadership structure of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.“
Sh. Yusuf Islahi – a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) party of India. In 2010 the Investigative Report on Terrorism (IPT) reported that JIH supports Islamic rule over politics/the economy and has backed terrorism against American troops and in the Middle East. At the time of the report, Islahi was noted to be a member of the governing board of the JIH party of India.
Dr. Mukhtar Maghraoui – reported to be with the Islamic Center Boca Raton (ICBR) Maghraoui, is a former member of the Fiqh Council of North America – an organization comprised of Islamic scholars associated with the Global Muslim Brotherhood. A 2014 article in The Clarion Project links the ICBR to MB groups.
Sh. Abdool Rehman Khan – chairman of the Shari’ah Council of Islamic Circle of North America and a member of the Fiqh Council of North America.
Imam Suhaib Webb – Imam of the Islamic Society of Boston’s Cultural Center (ISBCC) and former education director of the Muslim American Society (MAS). His MB ties were featured in a December 2011 GMBDW report.
Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed – the GMBDW advises, “Yasmin Mogahed is also the sister of Dahlia Mogahed, formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama and close to Saudi-funded Georgetown Professor John Esposito, himself a long-time supporter of the Global Muslim Brotherhood. Yasmin Mogahed is a regular speaker on the Global Muslim Brotherhood speaking circuit.”
Dr. Altaf Husain – former two-term national president of the Muslim Students Association (MSA), a current executive committee member of the Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA), ISNA Vice President-US, and a board member of the Peaceful Families Project. We reported in May 2015, The Peaceful Families Project board also includes Salma Elkadi Abugideiri and Muna AbuSulayma, the daughters of two major MB leaders.
Imam Khalid Griggs– Imam of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, Associate Chaplain for Muslim Life at Wake Forest University, and Board Chair of the ICNA Council for Social Justice. A 2012 article in the Creeping Sharia blog highlights Griggs’ radical affiliations including being “a member of the Shura Council for the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA), an organization co-founded and led by Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.” In Jan 2015, the Washington Times reported about a call for a Wake Forest University donor boycott until the university addressed the 2010 hiring of Griggs and his radical ties.
Dalia Mogahed – Formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama , The IPT notes that she is “a tenacious defender of groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).” We reported on her scheduled June 2015 video appearance at the MSA National Retreat.
Nihad Awad – National Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Washington, DC.. The IPT offers a number of reports on CAIR’s link to the MB.
Nahela Alexandra Morales – leader of ICNA’s WHY-ISLAM Hispanic Outreach to Mexico.
Sr. Saadia Z. Yunus – daughter of past ICNA president (1977 – 2000), Dr. Mohammad Yunus.
Qasim Mazhar – Operations Manger for ICNA’S youth branch, Young Muslims.
The ICNA’s Young Muslims will be holding their convention, Lost in Whispers, at the same dates and location.
Some past convention highlights:
According to an IPT report, at the 2000 convention Tayyib Yunus, then leader of the Young Muslims branch and son of former ICNA president Dr. Mohammad Yunus, urged ICNA members to send their children to fight in jihad:
“The youth is very important, as parents, for us to facilitate the youth. And, we all want to see our youth to succeed to become doctors, to become engineers; but how many of you can actually say that you want to send your son to Jihad, to Chechnya ? How many of you can actually say that? [Takbir! Allahu Akbar!] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your child [He begins to sob] Takbir! Allahua Akbar! Takbir! Allahua Akbar! [He cries uncontrollably now, after a delay, he begins to speak again] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your youth to fight in Jihad or to send them to Azhar or to these Islamic Institutions to become educated?” [Emphasis added]
“Where was security? … We’re curious, because this two-day Islamist lobbying and political muscle flexing — dubbed “National Muslim Advocacy Day and Palestine Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill” — was organized by a radical Muslim Brotherhood umbrella group led by actual terrorism suspects.”
– Investors Business Daily
April 13th 2015 came and went. For most Americans it was simply 2 days before taxes were due.
At the U.S. Congressional Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC it marked the 1st Annual National Muslim Advocacy Day.
Sponsored by the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the event reportedly featured over 280 delegates gathered from more than 20 states to meet with elected officials and congressional staffers. According to USCMO, it was “designed to connect national, regional and state Muslim organizations [and] community members with more than one third of the U.S. House of Representatives and a half of the Senate.’
Mainstream news outlets? …. well, they didn’t even report on it … at least we were unable to find any mention. What coverage that we did find, was primarily limited to online blogs and publications.
One unexpected report came from a leading financial source, Investors Business Daily in their editorial section:
Democrats Embrace Terror Suspects On Hill During ‘Muslim Advocacy Day’
04/20/2015 07:01 PM ET
Infiltration: Two-hundred eighty Muslim “leaders” stormed the U.S. Capitol last week, taking grip-and-grin photos with Democrats and even visiting the office of their national committee chief. Where was security?
We’re curious, because this two-day Islamist lobbying and political muscle flexing — dubbed “National Muslim Advocacy Day and Palestine Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill” — was organized by a radical Muslim Brotherhood umbrella group led by actual terrorism suspects.
At least one of them already has been behind bars, another has been the subject of both FBI and National Security Agency investigations and the rest “should be in jail, not on Capitol Hill” freely roaming the halls of American power, asserted a veteran FBI agent.
“These are leaders of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood in America,” said John Guandolo. Yet “they are moving around the nation’s Capitol freely without any fear of the FBI or anyone else arresting them.”
And that’s precisely what they lobbied against — investigation and prosecution. Hundreds of these radical Muslim “activists” fanned out across the Hill to knock on doors of members of Congress to express their opposition to anti-terrorism investigations in the Muslim community and American mosques.
USCMO’s formation as another front of the Muslim Brotherhood is fairly clear. In it’s report on National Muslim Advocacy Day, the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch (GMBDW) noted:
In December 2014, the GMBDW was the first to report that the USCMO had announced plans to hold what was described as the first-of-its-kind National Muslim Advocacy Day. The GMBDW reported in March 2014 on the formation of the USCMO, comprised of eight US Muslim organizations most of which are part of the US Muslim Brotherhood:
- American Muslims for Palestine (AMP)
- Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
- Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA)
- Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA)
- Muslim American Society (MAS)
- Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA)
- Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA)
- The Mosque Cares (Ministry of Imam W. Deen Mohammed)
The National Muslim Advocacy Day event was probably best summed up by the headline from www.westernjournalism.com with, “A Major Muslim Group Just Made A Bold Move To Gain More Power In The US Government“.
Sidenote: The described activities were combined with “Palestine Advocacy Day” but this was not mentioned or promoted in USCMO coordinated press items.
In short, the history/background of the leadership of the Islamic Society of Boston makes it fairly clear why there might be some radical elements roaming the hallways.
Islamic Society of Boston Condemns Claims that Alleged ISIS Cohort Attended Mosque
They’re refuting a recent New York Post report that said Ahmad Abousamra prayed in Cambridge regularly.
From: Boston Magazine / Boston Daily
By: Steve Annear, September 8, 2014 5:43 pm
A Cambridge mosque is denying claims made by the New York Post that a man from Massachusetts who allegedly has ties to the Islamic extremist group ISIS, the same organization responsible for the beheading of a New England journalist who went missing in Syria in 2012, ever attended their religious quarters.
The Islamic Society of Boston said in a statement that the Post’s recent story claiming that Ahmad Abousamra, a Boston College graduate from Stoughton, who is reportedly linked to the Islamic State, was a “regular worshipper” at their mosque, along with others tied to terrorist activity, was full of “half-truths,” and the newspaper never reached out to them for comment or verification of the facts.
“We would like to now clarify this issue,” the center said in their statement. “According to our records, Ahmad Abousamra never came to or had any relationship with our mosque.”
The Post also said in their report, titled “Boston Bomber’s Mosque Tied to ISIS,” that at one time Abousamra’s father held a prominent position with the Muslim organization that runs the mosque, another claim the ISB denied.
“His father was never appointed to any leadership or board position at the mosque,” the ISB said.
A recent ABC News report shed light on the possibility that Abousamra, who is wanted by the FBI, has been running social media campaigns for ISIS, helping to promote or create videos of the beheadings of American journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley as the terrorist cell continues to expand its territory overseas.
The New York Post article cited above, wrote:
Now it can be revealed that another regular worshipper at the Islamic Society mosque was Ahmad Abousamra, who is now the top propagandist for ISIS.
Abousamra’s father, a prominent doctor, even sat on the board of directors of the Muslim organization that runs the mosque. He stepped down after the FBI began questioning his son.
The FBI suspects Abousamra now operates ISIS’s sophisticated media wing promoting the group’s beheadings and other atrocities through slick videos posted on the Internet. The brutally effective English-language propaganda campaign has helped attract thousands of Western jihadists, including at least 300 Americans.
The FBI says Abousamra, 32, traveled to Pakistan and Yemen to train to kill Americans while enrolled at Boston colleges. He justified murdering civilians because “they paid taxes to support the government and were kufar [nonbelievers],” Boston FBI Agent Andrew Nambu testified in an affidavit.
The interest in Abousamra and his Boston ties came from an ABC report that stated the FBI suspected him of joining ISIS and using his computer skills to spread the group’s propaganda on social media.
The Islamic Society of Boston (ISB) gained media attention in the wake of the 2013 Boston Bombing when it was reported that one of the bombers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, had been removed from the mosque after he created a disturbance three months prior to the bombings during prayers. The New York Post article notes that worshipers at the Islamic Society have included:
- Abdurahman Alamoudi, the mosque’s founder and first president, who in 2004 was sentenced to 23 years in prison for plotting terrorism. In 2005, the Treasury Department issued a statement saying Alamoudi raised money for al Qaeda in the US.
- Aafia Siddiqui, an MIT scientist-turned-al Qaeda agent, who in 2010 was sentenced to 86 years in prison for planning a New York chemical attack. Known as “Lady al Qaeda,” she is related to 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed. ISIS has tried to trade her release for journalist hostages.
- Tarek Mehanna, who in 2012 got 17 years in prison for conspiring to use automatic weapons to murder shoppers in a suburban Boston mall.
- Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a mosque trustee and Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader banned from the US after issuing a fatwa that called for the killing of US soldiers.
- Jamal Badawi, another former trustee who in 2007 was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a plan to funnel more than $12 million to Palestinian suicide bombers.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: As was previously pointed out in Boston Has Jihadi Terror History, since 1993 the Boston area is no stranger to Islamic jihadi activity. This has ranged from fundraising to being the jumping off spot for the 9/11 attacks. The ISB, according to the Boston Mag article, said they can’t be held accountable for people passing through and stopping to pray at the Cambridge mosque, since Muslims are required to pray five times a day, and the facility is “open to all people.” A valid point, but it doesn’t explain away the Islamist influences that have impacted the ISB since it’s inception – it’s founding and management by U.S. Muslim Brotherhood (MB) operatives.
The ISB was incorporated in Massachusetts by Abdurahman Alamoudi in 1982. A prominent member of the MB, Alamoudi focused on MB funding operations. The ISB most likely acted as the base of operations, a focal point for MB financial operations in the north eastern United States. In the mid-1990s, the arrest and deportation of Mousa Abu Marzook resulted in Alamoudi coordinating Middle East financial support activities in addition to his U.S. based operations – answering directly to the MB economic director, Panama City Dr. Yahia Rahim.
In 2002, MB leadership directed Dr. Osama M. Kandil to Boston to assist Alamoudi. Kandil was part of MB leader Dr. Ahmed Elkadi‘s core group out of Panama City, FL. Prior to moving to Boston, Kandil had been involved in the Safa/SAAR group of charities out of Virginia that federal investigators had tied into terrorist funding. When he arrived in Boston, Kandil was appointed president of the ISB. During their time at ISB, Alamoudi and Kandil were also listed as directors of the Taibah International Aid Association, a Muslim charity. In 2004 Taibah International was designated by the U.S. Treasure Department as a terrorist entity for funding al Qaeda
In short, the history/background of the leadership of the Islamic Society of Boston makes it fairly clear why there might be some radical elements roaming the hallways.
… that Muslims actually discovered America.
The Pluralism Project of Harvard University was started in 1991,with the stated mission, “… to help Americans engage with the realities of religious diversity through research, outreach, and the active dissemination of resources.” It tends to focus on interfaith and non-Christian religions, featuring a sizeable amount of research and information pertaining to Islam. A section titled, “The First American Muslims” includes:
The historical roots of Islam in America are complex and contested. Some historians argue that Muslim explorers may have come to this continent long before Christopher Columbus, with the earliest estimates dating to the 12th century. Many contend that Muslims played a vital part in numerous European expeditions to the Americas, both as mapmakers and as guides: Estevancio of Azamor, a Moroccan guide who landed in Florida in 1539, is often cited as the first documented Muslim in America. By the late 1700s, historical records indicate the presence of “Moors” living in South Carolina, many of whom were expelled from their homeland under edict of the Spanish Crown.
It appears the Pluralism Project did not find it very contested. Its Islam in America timeline shows:
1178 CE Muslims Sail to America
A Chinese source known as the Sung Document records that Muslim sailors journeyed to a land known as Mu-Lan-Pi, which some Muslims identify as the American continent. This document is mentioned in the publication The Khotan Amirs, 1933.
1300s CE African Muslims to the New World
According to some scholars, Abu Bakari, a king of the Muslim state of Mali in West Africa, initiated a series of sea voyages to North America beginning in the early 1300s. About the same time, Mandingo Muslims from Mali and other parts of West Africa are said to have arrived in the Gulf of Mexico and traveled up the Mississippi River to explore the interior of the North American continent.
The listed sources are vague and the authenticity of the Sung Document is in question. While these claims are repeatedly listed on a number of Islamist websites as “proof” that Muslims actually discovered America, it is rather odd to have them included in a publication from a mainstream academic research group associated with Harvard.
So why claim Muslim’s discovered America? It could simply be a pride issue or an attempt to bolster Muslim history. Research author Frederick William Dame believes the motive is a bit more complex and states in The Muslim Discovery of America:
… this assertion is important for Muslims because in conjunction with the relevant verses from the Koran and quotes from Mohammed it establishes the claim of Muslims that Allah intended America to be Islamic.
Dame’s claim may certainly apply to the material posted by the Pluralism Project. At the end of the posted timeline is a thank you to Fareed Numan and the American Muslim Council for assistance in compiling it. The list in it’s original format, was written by Numan in 1992 while he was working as a research analyst for the American Muslim Council.
The American Muslim Council was founded in 1990 by Abdurahman Alamoudi – a leader of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. From the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch:
The Hudson report goes on to explain how Alamoudi played a role in important U.S. Muslim Brotherhood organizations such as the Muslim Student Association (MSA) and Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) before going on to form the American Muslim Council (AMC) which would play a leading role in U.S. Brotherhood affairs:
ISNA announced in November 1987 that it had formed is own PAC (ISNA-PAC), with Abdurahman Alamoudi as the “leading force” of the ISNA-PAC. Alamoudi had been the ISNA regional representative for the Washington, DC, metropolitan area (and was previously president of MSA and executive assistant to the president of SAAR). He would later go on to form the American Muslim Council (AMC) with Elkadi’s father-in-law Abu-Saud in July 1990. The AMC was designed to encourage Muslims to become involved in politics and other civic activities. Alamoudi immediately began serving as the group’s director.
The AMC largely disappeared after Alamoudi’s conviction.
Pushing the notion that “Allah intended America to be Islamic” certainly fits within the ideology of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and having a Muslim Brotherhood organization assist in compiling the timeline should raise some questions. Whether those questions fell on deaf ears, or were even voiced, is another matter. Harvard University, home to the Pluralism Project, is also home to The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program (AISP). The program was established after Harvard received $20 million from the Prince Talal in 2005. We referred to Prince Talal’s interest in Universities and associations with the Muslim Brotherhood in this report about a new Islamic Studies Center at the University of Florida.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Alamoudi’s conviction was for illegal finance transactions with Libya and implicated in a plot to kill a Saudi prince. In 2012, Alamoudi provided sworn testimony that the Muslim American Society (MAS) was created as a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in America and had also stated, “”Everyone knows that MAS is the Muslim Brotherhood”
Another page of the Pluralism Project site that drew our attention was Islam in America Post 9/11. The theme is heavy on Muslim victimhood and almost seems to have been written through the offices of CAIR or MPAC. One section the sacrifices historical fact in favor of promoting a positive Muslim image reads:
Muslim organizations and individuals suddenly came under scrutiny. Several prominent and trusted American Muslim charities such as the Holy Land Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation were shut down by the American government, charged with having ties to terrorists. Muslim Student Associations on college campuses across the country came under secret surveillance by American police. Muslims continue to be singled out by federal security. The FBI continues to closely monitor Muslim communities at mosques.
There was nothing “sudden” about the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) and Global Relief Foundation. HLF was being investigated by the FBI since 1994 concerning it’s ties to Hamas. Global Relief was being investigated over a year prior to 9/11. From a January 6, 2000 FBI memo:
Although the majority of GRF funding goes toward legitimate relief operations, a significant percentage is diverted to fund extremist causes. Among the terrorist groups known to have links to GRF are the Algerian Armed Islamic Group, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Gama’at Al Islamyia, and the Kashmiri Harakat Al Jihad El Islam, as well as the Al Qaeda organization of Usama Bin Laden. . . . In the past, GRF support to terrorists and other transnational mujahideen fighters has taken the form of purchase and shipment of large quantities of sophisticated communications equipment, provision of humanitarian cover documentation to suspected terrorists and fund-raising for terrorist groups under the cover of humanitarian relief.
Having a dinner featuring spiritual
leaders that support bombings is an
interesting way to promote the
“religion of peace”
The Chicago chapter of the Muslim American Society (MAS) held it’s annual dinner on April 27, 2014 at the convention center in Tinley Park, IL.
As reported by the The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch, MAS has been identified as a part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and closely tied to the Egyptian organization.
- Zaid Shakir– co-founder of Zaytuna College and one of it’s senior faculty members. Born Ricky Mitchell, he converted to Islam while serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1977. A very popular speaker on the U.S. Islamic circuit, Shakir has frequently defended the terrorist actions of Hizballah and is prone to conspiracy theories. He is one of the speakers on a featured video promoting MPAC’s Safe Spaces Initiative.
- Jamal Said – Iman and director of the Mosque Foundation (Bridgeview Mosque, IL) , he was one of the unindicted co-c0nspirators of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) Hamas financing trial. A Feb 2004 Chicago Tribune article highlights his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and states that his hardline approach drove out many moderate Muslims from the mosque. The article further describes how Jamal Said raised money for convicted terror fundraiser Sami Al-Arian.
- Kifah Mustapha – Iman and associate director of the Mosque Foundation. As another named HLF unindicted co-conspirators, Mustapha made headlines in 2010 when his invitation to serve as the first Muslim chaplain for the Illinois State Police was rescinded. Reason – a history of fundraising for Hamas. While the media was quick to cite that Mustapha committed no crime, they failed to mention FBI testimony and video of Mustapha singing songs at HLF events that glorified Hamas and killing Jews. Probably not the best image to associate with a law enforcement agency.
COMMENTS/ANALYSIS: Missing from last year’s line-up: Dr. Amjad Qourshah. Dr. Qourshah’s Facebook post in Aaugust 2013, where he attacked Christians was apparently still too fresh an incident. Having a dinner featuring spiritual leaders that support bombings is an interesting way to promote the “religion of peace”.
“MAS believes that Islamic principles, when applied appropriately, can give rise to a good way of life and promote a healthy society. … As such, MAS encourages American Muslims to actively engage in shaping America’s legislation. This is not counter to American values, but is in fact an attempt by loyal citizens to improve society from their perspective.”
– Muslim American Society
In the wake of the Virginia legislature’s commendation of the Falls Church, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center earlier this month, outrage is being heard. People are asking, how could this have happened? What were our representatives thinking? Don’t they know the history/terror ties of the mosque? How could they be so manipulated?
Simple answer: they are politicians. They listen to the loudest voices that bring the most votes.
How many that had expressed outrage simply went on to check out “March Madness” and/or watch Dancing with the Stars (or something similar)? It would be a safe guess that the vast majority of those expressing outrage and shock have never written their local representatives.
Most Americans don’t even stay in touch with their representatives through newsletters, tweets, etc. — a good percentage couldn’t even name their representatives.
The Islamist activists know who their representatives are. They remind all Muslims attending the mosque who the representatives are, how to effectively contact them and what issues to push. This happened in Virginia and this is happening all over the U.S.A.. Muslim political awareness/action is well organized and happening across the nation at the local, state and national levels with great success.
- This week MPAC sent out a notice that, “Congress is in Recess! Schedule a Meeting with Your Representative“. The webpage includes tools on how to locate their representative and a guide for followup.
- United Voices of America (CAIR/Florida) hosts Muslim Capital Day in Tallahassee. Similar events are being held/organized in other states.
- Tampa’s Oaktree Institute has programs to train Muslim activists to organize and work the legislative system.
In other words, the Islamists have learned how to work the U.S. legislative system quite well. They realize that time is on their side. Western apathy and political correctness works to their advantage. They have learned that even though they represent a small minority in this country, a repeated and persistent voice produces results with politicians – it’s a force multiplier – especially when most of the electorate has no interest in what is happening in their state capital.
Islamists in North American know that politicians are the key for success in implementing their agenda and reaching their goals. Through patience, perseverance, votes and campaign contributions, any obstacles are slowly chipped away. The following is from the Muslim American Society (MAS) website:
11. How does MAS define its position regarding the Khilafa (Caliphate), Islamic State and Islamic Law?MAS aims to move people to strive for God-consciousness, liberty and justice, and to convey Islam with utmost clarity. MAS envisions a virtuous and just American society where Muslims are exemplary citizens actively engaged in helping to improve the society. It is not the goal of MAS to establish khilafa, an Islamic state or impose Islamic law in the United States.Despite the lack of a current model of proper application of sharia (Islamic law) anywhere in the world, MAS believes that Islamic principles, when applied appropriately, can give rise to a good way of life and promote a healthy society. All Americans, without exception, have the right to advocate for legislation that they believe is beneficial for society, within the framework of the American constitution, and guided by their faith and values. As such, MAS encourages American Muslims to actively engage in shaping America’s legislation. This is not counter to American values, but is in fact an attempt by loyal citizens to improve society from their perspective.
Now back to Virginia …
First off, the lack of mainstream media coverage of this was appalling – but not surprising. This mosque’s history is no secret and it would be quite a stretch to imagine the state representatives were not aware of the terrorist ties. N. Virginia has been a hotbed of Islamist related terror support networks since the 1980s as documented in the SAAR and Operation Green Quest investigations.
As for those responsible for the bill, keep in mind that state legislatures pass bills commending just about everything under the sun. This includes credit unions/banks/churches/corner gas stations — you name it. It’s simply “feel good” gestures aimed at getting re-election votes down the road.
Legislators in attendance usually are not even listening to that portion of the session dedicated to these type of bills. They simply vote yes.
The bill honoring the “9/11” mosque (HJ484) was introduced by Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington) with support from co-patrons Del. Kaye Kory (D-Falls Church), Del. Ken Plum (D-Reston), Del. Mark Sickles (D-Alexandria), Del. Marcus Simon (D-Falls Church), and Del. Vivian Watts (D-Annandale).
All these democrats represent areas with a large number of Muslim constituents AND ALL were endorsed by the Virginia Muslim Political Action Committee (VMPAC) in 2013. Rest assured, this endorsement was a factor in support of the bill.
Should they be ashamed of themselves? You bet, but the reality is most politicians have very little shame – if any. It’s the nature of the beast.
Let’s hope this acts as a wake-up call to those residents in Virginia as well as others across the nation. Get involved!
“These courses are part of the comprehensive curriculum aiming to develop the attributes of the ‘Ideal’ Muslim American Activist Leader.” – OakTree Institute
With the news coverage of the Boston bombing, it was reported that much of the media was missing the Tsarnaev brothers’ ties to the Muslim Students Association (MSA). At this point, little will probably be learned of the actual connection to the MSA – clean-up is well underway, if not already completed.
For the most part, MSA and other Islamic special interest groups are not focused on violent acts in the United States. Terrorist actions tend to be counter-productive to fundraising and the MB’s stated methods towards a goal of the desired “grand Jihad”.
The Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S. (MB) has provided documentary evidence along with member interviews that provide a very clear understanding of their agenda to establish the dominance of Islam and sharia in the west. Subordinate organizations working to this end have been identified and the role of the Muslim American Society (MAS) to act as the MB’s public face was explained.
Mohamed Akram’s An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America, indicated:
“The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.“
Realizing that “settlement” takes several generations, MAS/MB groups in the U.S. work closely with youth and student organizations to educate and groom the next generation of cultural jihadis. The Boston bombing actually caused the postponement of a MAS training event by the OakTree Institute, with offices in Tampa, Florida.
Established in 2011, the OakTree Institute is an Islamic Education and Leadership Development Institute that has been providing lectures, seminars and camps. Their website states it acts as a “leadership academy developing value driven, action focused, results oriented citizens of tomorrow. OakTree Institute is an affiliate of the Muslim American Society (MAS).”
According to the OakTree Institute’s Facebook page:
Courses: Both content and skills based, delivered onsite and online, to understand fundamental Islamic principles that shape the individual, family, and community at large. In addition, an intensive spiritual & character development track will be implemented to build the faith and principles of the young Muslim Activist Leader. These courses are part of the comprehensive curriculum aiming to develop the attributes of the “Ideal” Muslim American Activist Leader. Each course will include expansive reading materials, supplementary video and audio lectures, workbooks, homework assignments and exams to asses the students progress through the course.
We added the bold-type.
The staff of OakTree includes some familiar names from MAS. The financial officer, Almas Shodhan, had worked for four years as the Head of Finance at Islamic Relief USA. Islamic Relief USA’s activities have been suspicious at best.
OakTree’s listed instructors includes Qatari professor Dr. Jasser Auda, affiliated with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and a host of other MB organizations. IIIT was one of many groups associated with the now defunct SAAR Foundation, a network of Islamic organizations located in Northern Virginia and raided in 2002 for financing of terrorism. IIIT was also reported to have provided at least $50,000 in funding to a Tampa, Fla.-based group World and Islam Studies Enterprise (WISE), founded by Sami Al-Arian.
OakTree’s board of directors consist of:
AMR ABOUZIED – Doctor of Internal Medicine, Tampa, FL
(past president of MAS Tampa)
AMR MORSY – Anesthesiologist, Wayne, NJ
MOHAMED OSMAN – Cardiologist, Davie, FL
AHMED ABOBAKER MOHAMED – Pediatrician, Lynn Haven, FL
HAYTHAM (S) MOHAMED – Anesthesiologist, Shrewsbury, MA
