One can only wonder what the cost will be for this attempt to save face.
The Khorosan Group Does Not Exist
It’s a fictitious name the Obama administration invented to deceive us.
We’re being had. Again.
For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name.
Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual worldview, which holds that empowering Islamic supremacists is the path to security and stability. Yet even as war intensifies in Iraq and Syria — even as jihadists continue advancing, continue killing and capturing hapless opposition forces on the ground despite Obama’s futile air raids — the president won’t let go of the charade.
Hence, Obama gives us the Khorosan Group.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: We had the same reaction … who? Never heard of them. Some talk show “experts” /talking heads/administration sources are even claiming that they’ve been monitoring the group for a long time. Doubtful. Some quick checks:
- A Wikipedia check showed entries and sources no older than September 2014
- The group is not listed by the Dept of State as a designated terrorist organization
- The group’s reported leader, Muhsin al-Fadhli is listed on the National Counter-terrorism website as part of al-Qaeda but no mention of a Khorosan/Khurasan Group.
In the last two days, Washington, along with various media outlets, have been reporting on the “Khurasan Group,” a shadowy terrorist cell in Syria in its later stages of an attack plot against an unspecified Western target(s). It seemed to come out of nowhere; America, in launching what has been specifically branded as a war on the Islamic State (IS), claims a victorious aerial attack against a group no one has ever heard of.
The truth, however, is that virtually everyone around the world has heard about this group, more likely by its other name: al-Qaeda (AQ).
The bottom line is that the Obama administration claimed to have decimated al-Qaeda – but it didn’t. Instead of admitting they were wrong, they came up with a new name. Unfortunately facts do not support the narrative – a common trend with this administration. One can only wonder what the cost will be for this attempt to save face.

Moon’s article points out two important issues: terror networks have a presence in cities across America and many are centered around Islamic centers
In a recent Breitbart article, Michelle Moons brings additional attention to the San Diego area and its repeated ties to jihadi terror activites. She writes:
Recent discovery of terrorist ISIS fighter Douglas McAuthur McCain’s body in Syria has spurred investigation into the radicalization of Muslims within the United States.
San Diego is fourth on a list of five cities with the most “known or suspected terrorists,” according to recently leaked classified government documents. Following the 9/11 attacks, investigations in San Diego uncovered terrorists and their links to terrorist organizations al Qaeda, al-Shabaab, and ISIS, among others.
Classified government documents obtained by The Intercept include statistics on watch-listed individuals in the U.S. The 2013 document, prepared by the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), lists the top five cities with the highest number of known or suspected terrorists (KST) in the U.S. (in order): New York, New York; Dearborn, Michigan; Houston, Texas; San Diego, California, and Chicago, Illinois.
NCTC reports have noted the high level of terrorist activity in Somalia, as terrorist group al-Shabaab has intermittently controlled various key regions of Somalia. A Center for Disease Control and Prevention document cites Office of Refugee Resettlement statistics that list Minnesota, California, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. as locations where the majority of Somalis have settled in the U.S. Thousands have come to the U.S. as refugees under the banner of fleeing war and persecution in their home country. Current population estimates of Somali-born individuals living in the U.S. range from 35,760 to 150,000.
In fiscal year 2014 so far, October 1-July 20, 290 Somalis either turned themselves in or were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. undetected through official ports of entry, according to a leaked U.S. Customs and Border Protection report obtained by Breitbart Texas. In 2010, KPBS reported on circuitous routes taken by Somalis looking to cross into the U.S. over the southwest border. Those routes would take Somalis through locations including Cuba and Tijuana, Mexico before crossing into the U.S.

Last week, we reported on how San Diego plays prominently with U.S. terror concerns. Much of the news media has been slow to grasp this, rather focusing on the Twin City area.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Besides highlighting activity in the San Diego area, Moon’s article points out two important issues: terror networks have a presence in cities across America and many are centered around Islamic centers. These facts have been proven repeatedly yet Islamic groups such as CAIR and MPAC continue efforts to hinder investigations concerning suspicious activities and terror links to mosques nationwide. As we pointed out, their motives are suspect at best.
… embracing political correctness and liberal delusions of multiculturalism have overshadowed any inkling of common sense in safeguarding domestic interests. The wake-up call may be too late.
It was reported last week that Austrian authorities arrested a group of Chechen immigrants on suspicion of planning to join Islamist militant groups in Syria. A Gatestone Institute article, Austria: Springboard for Global Jihad by Soeren Kern indicates:
The Austrian government has announced plans to improve its intelligence gathering and analysis capabilities in an urgent effort to crack down on would-be jihadists in the country.
The decision by Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner to recruit 20 new intelligence officers to focus exclusively on the threat posed by radical Islam comes after police in Austria arrested nine Chechen immigrants who were on their way to wage jihad in Syria.
The move also comes amid growing concerns that Austria’s shiftless Muslim youth are becoming increasingly radicalized and vocal in their support of the jihadist group Islamic State.
The Chechens—eight men and one woman, ranging in age from 17 to 32—were purportedly planning to travel to Syria over a land route that would take them from Austria through the neighboring Balkans and on into Turkey. Four of the individuals were arrested in the southeastern Austrian province of Styria, and five others were detained in the province of Carinthia. Both provinces border Slovenia.
According to an analysis published by the newspaper Der Standard, Austria has emerged as a central hub for jihadists seeking to fight in Syria because Austria’s geographic location provides easy access to land routes through the Balkans.
Austrian intelligence officials say that most of the 130 Austrians who are thought to have travelled to Syria are Chechens. The rest are immigrants from Bosnia, Kosovo and Turkey. Approximately 60 Austrian jihadists are currently on the front lines, 50 have already returned to Austria and 20 have been killed in action.
Austria’s concerns are also focused on returning jihadists. In a June 2014 report (translation from Gatestone), the Austrian intelligence agency BVT states:
When fighters return from the warzone, their newly acquired combat skills, traumatic experiences and changes in behavior, plus the possibility that they have become highly radicalized, represent a considerable security risk for Austria. Those who return could become involved in proselytizing activities as well as in establishing new radical centers in which they could serve as instructors. Potential terrorist attacks could be perpetrated by so-called lone wolves but also by organized terrorist groups.
The Gatestone article further cites from the BVT report:
The number of young radicalized followers of violent Salafism in Austria continues to rise. In this context, the conflict in Syria is of urgent relevance for Austria, because systematic efforts are being made within Austria to radicalize and recruit people for the war in Syria.
The conflict in Syria has become very popular among violent extremist Salafists in Austria. The spectrum of recruits for the conflict in Syria is ethnically diverse. The motivation, however, appears to be uniformly jihadist.
So-called hate preachers can have a decisive influence on the radicalization and recruiting processes by means of ideological and personal indoctrination. Jihad is offered as the only adequate means to solving disputes between Muslims and non-Muslims. In Austria, this targeted manipulation is achieved through conspiratorial performances by charismatic leaders. Young Muslims, who are seeking alternative perspectives due to life crises, are often submissive victims to these ‘radicalizers’ and ‘recruiters’ and are often fascinated by the prospect of armed jihad.
Austrian concern over Salafism with young Muslims is apparently compounded by the increasing Muslim enrollment in public schools – a pattern that is being reflected in many European countries. According to Kern:
Muslim students already outnumber Roman Catholic students at middle and secondary schools in Vienna, the capital and largest city of Austria, according to statistics compiled by the Vienna Board of Education (Stadtschulrat für Wien) and published by Radio Vatican website in March 2014.
The data—which show that Muslim students are also on the verge of overtaking Catholics in Viennese elementary schools—reflect an established trend and provide empirical evidence of a massive demographic and religious shift underway in Austria, traditionally a Roman Catholic country.
In the current school year, 10,734 Muslim students are enrolled in Viennese middle and secondary schools, compared to 8,632 Roman Catholic students, 4,259 Serbian Orthodox students and 3,219 students with “no religious persuasion,” the data shows.
As far as elementary schools are concerned, there are 23,807 Roman Catholic students, followed by 17,913 Muslim students, 11,119 “non-religious” students, 6,083 Serbian Orthodox students and 2,322 Protestants.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: As with the U.K., Austrian officials have been well aware of the domestic threats Islamists pose for some time with very little proactive actions to date. Unfortunately, embracing political correctness and liberal delusions of multiculturalism have overshadowed any inkling of common sense in safeguarding domestic interests. The wake-up call may be too late. Another example: France

Dutch grapple with jihadist threat
From: BBC News, The Hague
By Anna Holligan, August 21, 2014
Across Europe, governments are trying to prevent the radicalisation of young people attracted by the growing influence of Islamic State militants. More than 100 Dutch citizens are thought to be fighting for various groups in Syria and Iraq, and hundreds more have been identified as potential jihadists.
Dutch counter-terrorism officials are talking of a “rebirth of jihadism in the Netherlands”.
In the Schilderswijk district of The Hague last month, a group of some 20 men were captured on video waving the black flag of jihadist groups and voicing support for the militant group Islamic State (IS) that has seized broad swathes of northern Syria and Iraq.
In the footage posted on the internet, the demonstrators can be heard chanting slogans such as “Down with America” and “Death to the Jews”

COMMENT/ANALYSIS: While the recent murder of journalist James Foley is placing a focus on Britain, the instances of jihadi fighters coming from European countries is increasing- especially from nations that have maintained liberal immigration policies and pushed cultural diversity. For example: A 2013 report from the Combating Terrorism Center indicated that there were approximately 30 Swedish nationals fighting in Syria. As of this month, the estimate is around 80. Unconfirmed reports indicate at least 400 French recruits. As we previously mentioned, they will be facing an even more serious threat when the jihadis return “home”.
… there are approximately 600 British Muslim service members in its armed forces of almost 200,000 people. Official government estimates put the number of British Islamic State fighters operating in Syria and Iraq at up to 800.
Britain’s Muslim community has just received much international attention with speculation that the ISIS/IS (Islamic State) murder of journalist James Foley was done at the hands of a British citizen. Now USA Today is reporting:
More British Muslims fight for Islamic State than Britain
From: USA TODAY
By: Kim Hjelmgaard and John Bacon, August 21, 2014
LONDON — It is likely that there are now more British Muslims fighting for the Islamic State than for Britain’s military.
Britain’s Ministry of Defense confirmed to USA TODAY that there are approximately 600 British Muslim servicemembers in its armed forces of almost 200,000 people. Official government estimates put the number of British Islamic State fighters operating in Syria and Iraq at up to 800. The Foreign Office cautioned Thursday that it is difficult to provide precise numbers.
The militant who beheaded American journalist James Foley in a horrifying video released this week spoke with a British accent. United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond acknowledged that the militant in the video could be a British national. And he knows the problem of British jihadists is not a new one.
“This is something we have been tracking and dealing with for many, many months and I don’t think this video changes anything,” he said. “It just heightens awareness of a situation which is very grave.”
In 2013 we reported on how the U.K. insists on dealing with their Islamic terror problems by dismissing attacks and incidents as the actions of some radical “lone wolf”, ignoring organized internal Islamist factions. Frequently there is appeasement to the British Muslim community, even suggesting Muslim victim hood in western society could be the cause. According to the above USA Today article:
Ghaffar Hussain, of the Quilliam Foundation, a counter-extremism think tank in Britain, said the lure could be empowerment for many British Muslims with grievances over their treatment in a predominantly non-Muslim society. “It makes them feel like they are part of something that is important to the world,” he said. “If you feel like you don’t really fit in or if Muslims are being attacked and a narrative comes along that explains all that away in a simple way, that is attractive.”
To address the problem of Britain’s Muslims heading off to the Middle East to participate in jihad, it’s reported the government has implemented a diversion type program:
Hussain said a task force was set up – called Channel – to identify people who have been flagged in schools and institutions as being at risk of being drawn into extremism. Channel then pairs them with a mentor who assesses their needs and tries to offer support. But, he said, a major failing of the program is that it only works if individuals are flagged by the system.
The official U.K. government estimates may be overly conservative. A Newsweek article reports:
Khalid Mahmood, the MP for Perry Barr in Birmingham, estimates that at least 1,500 young British Muslims have been recruited by extremists fighting in Iraq and Syria in the last three years.
Mahmood told Newsweek that this figure had been building since the start of the Syrian conflict: “If you look across the whole of the country, and the various communities involved, 500 going over each year would be a conservative estimate.”
If MP Mahmood’s numbers are accurate, it would mean over twice as many British Muslim ISIS/IS fighters than Muslims serving in the British military.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: The U.K. government knows they have a problem – a very big one – 800 known British jihadists in addition to the “unknowns”. The damage of years of permissive immigration policies and ignoring the internal Islamist threat has been done. It is almost beyond any rational thought to consider some form of a “Big Brother” mentoring program as a means to stop British jihadists from joining ISIS/IS. Hopefully the U.K. leaders have a much better plan for when the fighters return home. According to this report, a number already have.
… in 2007 Muslim countries accounted for about 20% of U.S. refugee admissions. In 2008 there was a marked increase with well over 50% (35,000+) of refugee admissions coming from predominately Muslim countries. This repeated in 2009-2013 …
Refugee Resettlement Watch recently reported on a letter written in a New Hampshire newspaper warning of a planned resettlement of Congolese refugees to Dover, ME. The letter referenced issues involving resettlement of Somali refugees to Lewiston, ME.
North of Portand, Lewiston is the second largest city in Maine and has a population of roughly 36,500 people. Since 2001, Somali refugees have been settling in Lewiston (and the surrounding town of Auburn) with numbers estimated at over 4,000 living in the Lewiston-Auburn area. A small percentage originated as direct placements through Federal refugee programs. The rest are part of secondary migration from other areas in the United States, primarily from Atlanta, GA. The main attraction appears to be Maine’s generous welfare system.
Welfare fraud seems to be a common occurrence where Somali refugees are concentrated.
Some media reports would leave readers to believe that all is well. A 2009 Newsweek article claims that Somali immigrants actually saved Lewiston. This may not be the case. Federal officials have had to address the concerns of Lewiston officials, as well as other cities, over the social impact and financial drains posed by the refugees.
Somalis are but a portion of Muslim refugees resettling in the United States. According to U.S.Department of State refugee statistics, in 2007 Muslim countries accounted for about 20% of U.S. refugee admissions. In 2008 there was a marked increase with well over 50% (35,000+) of refugee admissions coming from predominately Muslim countries. This repeated in 2009-2013 and the 2014 allocations authorize the increased level. For 2015, 12,000-15,000 Syrians alone, are projected for admission.
Europe has been facing serious cultural clashes involving Islamists and we’ve reported on a number of issues facing the U.K.. The United States is far from immune. With the increased threats posed by the ISIS/IS Caliphate. the logic in increasing Middle East refugee allotments seems almost self-destructive.
As a result the top three spellings alone accounted for the names of 7,445 boys, easily beating the second most popular name Oliver which got just 6,949.
Muhammed Is Britain’s Most Popular Boys Name
By: Andre Walker, 15 Aug 2014
As exclusively reported by Breitbart London last week, Muhammed has been crowned Britain’s most popular boys name in figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) today. The name of the Muslim prophet beat Oliver as the most popular boys name chosen by parents in Britain in 2013.
As a result of the way the statistics are put together, the name does not appear to have won, as the ONS classifies each of the different spellings as a different entry on the list. This means that “Muhammad” came in 15th with 3,499 children but “Mohammed” was 23rd with 2,887 and “Mohammad” was 57th with 1059 given the name.
As a result the top three spellings alone accounted for the names of 7,445 boys, easily beating the second most popular name Oliver which got just 6,949. Also the statistics are only published for the top 100 names, so the even more obscure spellings of Mohammed are likely to push the total even higher.
News that Mohammed is the most popular boys name in Britain was first exclusively reported on Breitbart London following a leak at the ONS last week. At the time, Mohammed was already the most popular boys name in London by some considerable margin.
The scale of the result is likely to leave the public shocked, although much of the mainstream media are expected to focus on the official ONS results. As a result, they will report that Mohammed only came in 15th, ignoring the multiple entries. In previous years, media outlets in Britain have not aggregated the various spellings and have only published the top 20 names, which makes it seem like traditional names remain dominant.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Add this to the laundry list of trends changing the face of Britain as Islam gains ground in Western culture.
*While Breitbart is claiming this as an exclusive, it should be noted that U.K.’s MailOnline published a similar report back in 2010.
Carry-on … nothing to see here …. (cough)
Islamic State: Young British Muslims debate Caliphate
BBC Asian Network reporter Catrin Nye gathered young British Muslims from different sects of Islam to hear about their views on the concept of a Caliphate and what it means to them.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Posted on the BBC on August 14,2014, the interview is about 9 minutes and well worth watching to get a glimpse of the mindset of younger Muslims (i.e. early 20s) living in the west. The panel consists of 4 men and 3 women and the views run from embracing the concept of a Caliphate to completely rejecting it.
“This is a very disturbing development but one that should not come as a surprise since we are aware that around 500 British nationals have joined up with ISIS already.”
– Ghaffar Hussain, Quilliam Foundation
Radical students hand out Isis leaflets on Oxford Street in attempt to get British Muslims to join jihad
From: the London Evening Standard
By: David Churchill, August 13, 2014
Police were today probing leaflets handed out in the West End by radical students encouraging British Muslims to join the Islamic State (Isis).
Dozens of the leaflets were circulated on Oxford Street last night saying it is the responsibility of Muslims to pledge allegiance to the “Khaleef” – a reference to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-appointed leader of extremists waging a murderous campaign across northern Iraq.
Images of the group were posted on Twitter by users angered by the claims, including one British Muslim who claimed she had been “racially abused” after challenging the group.
The men, from Luton, are former students of banned cleric Omar Bakri and firebrand preacher Anjem Choudary.Scotland Yard today confirmed it was assessing whether the contents of the leaflets is in breach of anti-terrorism laws.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Mr. Hussain is quite correct in noting that this should not come as a surprise yet Britain continues to have an overall “head in the sand” policy as we noted in an article last year. The west needs to stop ignoring the 800 lb gorilla sitting on the ottoman across the room.
