The Khorosan Group: Fighting a “made up” enemy?

It’s a fictitious name the Obama administration invented to deceive us.

From: National Review Online
Andrew C. McCarthy, September 27, 2014

We’re being had. Again.

For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name.

Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual worldview, which holds that empowering Islamic supremacists is the path to security and stability. Yet even as war intensifies in Iraq and Syria — even as jihadists continue advancing, continue killing and capturing hapless opposition forces on the ground despite Obama’s futile air raids — the president won’t let go of the charade.

Hence, Obama gives us the Khorosan Group.

The who?

COMMENT/ANALYSIS:  We had the same reaction … who?  Never heard of them.  Some talk show “experts” /talking heads/administration sources are even claiming that they’ve been monitoring the group for a long time.  Doubtful.  Some quick checks:

  •   A Wikipedia check showed entries and sources no older than September 2014
  •  The group is not listed by the Dept of State as a designated terrorist organization
  •  The group’s reported leader, Muhsin al-Fadhli is listed on the National Counter-terrorism website as part of  al-Qaeda but no mention of  a Khorosan/Khurasan Group.

Rita Katz of of the SITE Intelligence Group wrote recently on her blog:

In the last two days, Washington, along with various media outlets, have been reporting on the “Khurasan Group,” a shadowy terrorist cell in Syria in its later stages of an attack plot against an unspecified Western target(s). It seemed to come out of nowhere; America, in launching what has been specifically branded as a war on the Islamic State (IS), claims a victorious aerial attack against a group no one has ever heard of.

The truth, however, is that virtually everyone around the world has heard about this group, more likely by its other name: al-Qaeda (AQ).

The bottom line is that the Obama administration claimed to have decimated al-Qaeda – but it didn’t.  Instead of admitting they were wrong, they came up with a new name.  Unfortunately facts do not support the narrative – a common trend with this administration.   One can only wonder what the cost will be for this attempt to save face.

A Message to President Obama

Pres. Obama’s Malaysian Muslim Misstep

 Hudud  punishments include execution
by sword/crucifixion/stoning,
amputations and flogging.
With Malaysia’s Muslim majority,
hudud is likely to be put in place.

In glancing over mainstream news headlines of President Obama’s trip to Malaysia, one may get the impression that this majority Muslim country is advanced with only a few social issues that need to be addressed.    A recent Washington Post article reported that  Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak told President Obama:

“Today, Mr. President, you see not rubber trees, as Lyndon B. Johnson did, but soaring skyscrapers. They are a testament to the transformation that is taking place here in Malaysia,” Najib said. “We are a modern, progressive Muslim majority nation, a multiethnic, multi-religious society.”

The article continues, citing President Obama’s view that the two leaders shared ..

“… the respect for freedom of assembly, the respect for people of different races and different faiths and different political philosophies — that those values are at the core of who the U.S. is, but also I think are a pretty good gauge of whether a society is going to be successful in the 21st century or not.”

In truth, Malaysia has problems – some serious problems and during his visit, President Obama did express some concerns over  reported  general election corruption and human rights issues.

The media also reported on President Obama’s visit to Malaysia’s nation mosque with one religious leader saying:

““There can be no better way for Obama to honour Islam than by visiting Masjid Negara”

And with that, we have a troubling disconnect with the U.S.President’s trip.

Having the U.S. President “honour” Islam in Malaysia may not be the most prudent action at this time. The country’s  legal system appears to be expanding towards sharia even though, under current Malaysian law, sharia courts only have jurisdiction over Muslims concerning certain civil matters. For example:

  • There was a Malaysian appeals court ruling in October 2013 finding that a Roman Catholic Church newspaper could not use the Arabic word “Allah” to refer to God because that phrase was reserved for Muslims.
  • The Malaysian state of Kelantan is currently having a heated debate over the implementation of hudud to the penal system.  Simply put, hudud  punishments involve fixed sentencing for designated crimes.  Hudud punishments include execution by sword/crucifixion/stoning, amputations and flogging.  With Malaysia’s Muslim majority, hudud is likely to be put in place.
  • This past March, a Christian woman was convicted by a sharia court for khalwat (close proximity) – a violation unique to the Muslim community.

With this trend the question becomes:  Should hudud be implemented, how likely will it be applied to non-Muslims?

Side Note:  Malaysia’s increase towards sharia influences follows that of others in the region as we reported in  Brunei moves to full Sharia

Strange Bedfellows – White House and Muslim Brotherhood

“Two and a half years ago, who would ever have thought that the United States would enter an alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood? There were hints in President Barack Obama’s Cairo speech, yet now it is clear that this is the new basis for regional security sought by the Obama Administration.”
– Barry Rubin, The Rubin Report

The recent White House meeting between administration officials and Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah highlighted the disturbing trend in U.S. middle east policy.  The following from  The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch is a “must read” to fully understand the significance:

ANALYSIS: A Black Day For The GMBDW; The Obama Administration Courting Of Youssef Qaradawi

By gmbwatch, June 27, 2013

On September 12 2001, the day we started our efforts to understand and monitor the Global Muslim Brotherhood, we could never in our darkest imagination have possibly considered that the White House of the United States  would be used to host a meeting with a close associate of Global Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi. In those days, we naively thought that exposing the Brotherhood’s profound and enduring ties to terrorism, religious hatred, and anti-Americanism would be sufficient to forever bar its consideration as any kind of partner for those who care about human rights and liberal democracy. Yet, as we posted earlier, we woke up yesterday to discover that Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, a close associate of Qaradawi, had recently visited the White House, possibly carrying a letter from Qaradawi, where he met with senior White House officials and representatives of other government agencies including an aide to President Obama and US OIC Envoy Rashad Hussain. How exactly had things progressed so far that the White House was meeting with a representative of an organization that once called for attacks on US troops in Iraq and whose leader has spewed forth vile anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism, not to mention sitting together on a board with a Saudi who in turn is close to groups supporting both Hamas and Al Qaeda? Although the meeting at the White House with Sheikh Bin Bayyah was a shock, even to us, in retrospect it should not have been given that everything the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch and its predecessor publication has reported over the years.

While space and time unfortunately do not permit a complete analysis of how these things have come to pass, it is instructive to note that the Obama Administration’s policy toward the Global Muslim Brotherhood has evolved over two distinct, but related tracks. Israeli analyst Barry Rubin has adroitly summarized the foreign policy track, a US alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood which he labels the “Obama Doctrine” …

COMMENT/ANALYSIS: The last two U.S. administrations have maintained a domestic policy of courting various Islamic special interest groups associated with the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), based on some idealistic view that inclusion would benefit national security.  We are now seeing how it has most likely led to influencing foreign policy decisions.

History has repeatedly shown that  coddling one’s enemies simply strengthens and emboldens said enemies.

Families of Navy SEALS Killed Question Motives/Invited Iman Damns Those Killed

On May 9, 2013, three families of  Navy SEAL Team VI and one family of an Army National Guardsman, service members killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011, held a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C..  Topics covered in the conference were:

1. How President Obama and Vice President Biden, having disclosed on May 4, 2011, that Navy Seal Team VI carried out the successful raid on Bin Laden’s compound resulting in the master terrorist’s death, put a retaliatory target on the backs of the fallen heroes.

2. How and why high-level military officials sent these Navy SEAL Team VI heroes into battle without special operations aviation and proper air support.

3. How and why middle-level military brass carries out too many ill-prepared missions to boost their standing with top-level military brass and the Commander-in-Chief in order that they can be promoted.

4. How the military restricts special operations servicemen and others from engaging in timely return fire when fired upon by the Taliban and other terrorist groups and interests, thus jeopardizing the servicemen’s lives.

5. How and why the denial of requested pre-assault fire may have contributed to the shoot down of the Navy SEAL Team VI helicopter and the death of these special operations servicemen.

6. How Afghani forces accompanying the Navy SEAL Team VI servicemen on the helicopter were not properly vetted and how they possibly disclosed classified information to the Taliban about the mission, resulting in the shoot down of the helicopter.

7. How military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen Navy SEAL Team VI heroes who disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah. A video of the Muslim cleric’s “prayer” will be shown with a certified translation.

The focus of the conference centered around the claim that the White House publicity,  following the bin Laden raid, by President Obama made SEAL  Team VI  a Taliban target for revenge.  Military officials were also criticized for having dangerous policies that placed those killed at a level of unnecessary risk.

Doug Hamburger, whose son Patrick was one of those killed, called the incident an “ambush” that could have been prevented.  Fox news quoted Hamburger:

“We’re very concerned that the administration had disclosed that the Navy SEALs had carried out a successful attack on bin Laden’s compound resulting in his death. And you know, never before in the history of our county (had) a sitting president released that type of information to the public, especially when he was talking about special forces. Their names and their missions had never been revealed before. And we really feel that this put our guys in an unnecessary risk.”

In regards to item 7  listed on the press conference topics, the Washington Times reported:

Report: Muslim cleric invited to pray over fallen SEALs damns them during service

From Washington Times
By Jessica Chasmar, May 9, 2013

The families of Navy SEALs killed in an August 2011 shoot-down of a helicopter in Afghanistan spoke at a press conference Thursday morning, citing a number of grievances, including an allegation that the Pentagon invited a Muslim cleric who “disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen.”

In addition to blasting the Obama administration for the mission and for an official investigation they deemed a cover-up, the families complained that “military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen Navy SEAL Team VI heroes who disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah.”

Jihad Watch also referred to the cleric’s sermon, including the video reported to have a certified captioned translation of the sermon:

Muslim cleric invited to pray over fallen SEALs damns them to hell during service

More fruit of the Obama Administration’s willful ignorance regarding Islam.

This is what the imam was quoting: “Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise. The companions of Paradise – they are the attainers [of success].If We had sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.” — Qur’an 59:20-21

COMMENTS/ANALYSIS:  President Obama’s parading of Seal Team IV as part of his victory lap was a major break from past policies of keeping Special Operations where they belong – primarily in “the black”.  His actions  most likely impacted operational security (OPSEC) on many levels.  The unfortunate reality is the increased use of Special Forces in recent contingencies has placed them in the sights of the media, resulting in over-exposure to the public – an undesirable situation.

The iman issue is another example of politicians/policy-makers attempting to be politically correct with absolutely no idea/concept of the price paid by their ignorance.  Once again, a platform was provided to proclaim Islamic superiority over the “infidels” in front of an unsuspecting audience.   The current, as well as past, U.S. administration  have maintained policies of embracing Islamists in some misguided belief that they will be won over – ignoring ever increasing evidence  that this will never happen.

President Obama Meets With Muslim Public Affairs Council Prior To Middle East Trip

From the Global Muslim Daily Report
March 14, 2013

The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) has announced that the director of its Washington office met in an “intimate” meeting with President Obama to discuss issues pertaining to his upcoming trip to the Middle East, including Israel. According to the MPAC announcement:

March 11, 2013, MPAC along with other Muslim and Arab American leaders met with President Barack Obama to discuss issues that will pertain to his upcoming trip to the Middle East. Haris Tarin, the Director of MPAC’s Washington, DC, office, attended the intimate meeting with the President, as he prepares his agenda for this visit to Palestine, Jordan and Israel. The group discussed with the President and his senior advisers how his trip can be a catalyst for restarting the dialogue that will lead to the implementation of a comprehensive peace plan in the coming months. Ideas were also presented on how to engage the Palestinian people, especially the burgeoning youth population. Tarin and others shared with the President some of the important work being done by the Palestinian people in achieving their aspirations for an independent and viable Palestinian state. The group also made  recommendations on key messages and policy issues that must be considered by the Americans, Israelis, Palestinians and other people in the region to ensure a just and sustainable peace process. =‘This meeting is an important first step by the President and his administration in ensuring that reliable voices of Palestinians and other concerned group and people in the region are heard,’ Tarin said. We are heartened that the President is beginning his second term with a trip to the region, and we hope that we can build a constituency for peace-making here in the United States and ensure that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not a zero-sum issue in our domestic discourse.”

Other media reports indicate that Presidential meeting also included representatives of the Arab American Institute, the American Task Force on Palestine, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the American Federation of Ramallah Palestine.

COMMENT/ANALYSIS: This trend by the Obama administration to have face-to-face meetings with the groups  mentioned provides an air of legitimacy to them, their causes and goals.  This should be a major concern, considering past positions taken by said groups. Founded in 1988, MPAC has a history of defending supporters of terrorism and even co-sponsoring events advocating anti-Israel rhetoric and violence.  Far from being a supporter of law enforcement efforts to fight terrorism, MPAC has publicly labeled them a “war on Islam”.  It repeatedly dismisses investigations and convictions of U.S. terrorist fund-raisers as the “result of people who are against Islam and Muslims.”  The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), reports that MPAC has also held a past position of defending it’s representatives for praising Osama bin Laden.  The IPT site offers a  quick reference dossier on MPAC.

Other groups at the meeting were the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and Arab American Institute (AAI).  Both are supporters of Hamas and Hezbollah and very anti-Israel.  Having MPAC, ADC an AAI advise President Obama on how to deal with issues in the Middle East shows a very dangerous trend in U.S. foreign policy initiatives.

Obama, Free Speech and the Islamists

Andrew C. McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor under the Clinton administration, was recently interviewed by the Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas regarding the Benghazi incident.  A senior fellow at the National Review Institute, he writes for National Review Online and is the author of several books on Islamism.

Mr. McCarthy faults the Obama administration on it’s lack of decisive action and incompetence in handling Benghazi, even using the label “dereliction of duty”.  He points out how the administration repeatedly lied about the cause/source of the Benghazi attack, claiming it was a response to an anti-Muslim video.   This leads to Mr. McCarthy stating that since 2009, the Obama administration continues to work with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to find agreement on U.N. Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18, which would deem it unlawful to incite hostility toward religion.

“What we are effectively doing is codifying the Sharia blasphemy standard under which any criticism of Islam…is deemed to be a capital offense, not just a crime … something that is so profoundly serious that it could be met with the death penalty,” McCarthy said.

Mr. McCarthy’s comments bring to light the disturbing trend of the Obama administration to bend and submit to Islamists not only domestically, but on a global scale.  To fully understand the motivation behind U.N. Resolution 16/18, one simply needs to look into the makeup and history of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

A permanent delegation of the United Nations, The Organization of Islamic Cooperation  consists of 57 member states and is headquartered in Jedda, Saudi Arabia .   It’s charter is quite clear in regards to goals and objectives, and as would be expected primarily focuses on issues that are beneficial to Islam …

Chapter 1, Article 1, paragraph 11:
To disseminate, promote and preserve the Islamic teachings and values based on moderation and
tolerance, promote Islamic culture and safeguard Islamic heritage;

Chapter 1, Article 1, paragraph 12:
To protect and defend the true image of Islam, to combat defamation of Islam and encourage dialogue
among civilisations and religions;

Chapter 1, Article 1,paragraph 16:
To safeguard the rights, dignity and religious and cultural identity of Muslim communities and
minorities in non-Member States;

Considering that a number of the OIC member states are named in reports of the persecution of non-Muslims and the OIC is headquartered in a country that severely restricts any religion other than Islam, it’s really not hard to conclude that any OIC support for U.N. Resolution 16/18 is not aimed at the protection of all religions.  Jonathan Turley, writing on op-ed piece in the Los Angeles Times (2011) put it quite well:

Although the resolution also speaks to combating incitement to violence, the core purpose behind this and previous measures has been to justify those who speak against religion. The members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, or OIC, have been pushing for years to gain international legitimacy of their domestic criminal prosecutions of anti-religious speech.

Using the United Nations as a platform for globally promoting an Islamic agenda is always disturbing.   In this case, even more so since political correctness is being wielded in a way that places our own 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution at odds with the international community.  Mr. Turley writes:

The OIC has hit on a winning strategy to get Western countries to break away from their commitment to free speech by repackaging blasphemy as hate speech and free speech as the manifestation of “intolerance.” Now, orthodoxy is to be protected in the name of pluralism — requiring their own notion of “respect and empathy and tolerance.” One has to look only at the OIC member countries, however, to see their vision of empathy and tolerance, as well as their low threshold for anti-religious speech that incites people.

… and in relation to Mr. McCarthy’s reference to working with the OIC:

Although the OIC and the Obama administration claim fealty to free speech, the very premise of the meeting reveals a desire to limit it. Many delegates presuppose that speech threatens faith, when it has been religious orthodoxy that has long been the enemy of free speech. Conversely, free speech is the ultimate guarantee of religious freedom.

The Obama Administration’s coziness with  the Organization of Islamic Cooperation sets off a number of concerns, considering the national interests of most of the OIC member nations conflict with the standing policies and laws of the United States.    The Benghazi incident and the U.S. response appears to be another symptom of a far greater problem – an ever growing American capitulation to Islamic global interests.
