Baltimore, MD will be hosting the 40th Annual ICNA/MAS convention Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, 2015.
The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is part of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) network in the U.S., and was listed as an affiliated organization in the seized MB document, “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America”. The Muslim American Society (MAS) claims to have no affiliation with the MB, but in 2004 then-Secretary General of MAS, Shaker Elsayed, was quoted as saying, “Ikhwan [Brotherhood] members founded MAS…”
This years convention is listing 26 featured speakers to include:
Imam Siraj Wahhaj – Vice President of ISNA and the Imam of Masjid Al-Taqwa in Brookyn, New York. Wahhaj has also held positions with the following Muslim Brotherhood (MB) organizations: North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), the American Muslim Council (AMC) and the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA). Wahhaj was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Naeem Baig – President of ICNA and the chairman of the American Muslim Taskforce (AMT), an umbrella body of 10 national American Muslim organizations. Sh. Yusuf Islahi – a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) party of India. In 2010 the Investigative Report on Terrorism (IPT) reported that JIH supports Islamic rule over politics/the economy and has backed terrorism against American troops and in the Middle East. At the time of the report, Islahi was noted to be a member of the governing board of the JIH party of India.
Dr. Mukhtar Maghraoui – reported to be with the Islamic Center Boca Raton (ICBR) Maghraoui, is a former member of the Fiqh Council of North America – an organization comprised of Islamic scholars associated with the Global Muslim Brotherhood. A 2014 article in The Clarion Project links the ICBR to MB groups.
Sh. Abdool Rehman Khan – chairman of the Shari’ah Council of Islamic Circle of North America and a member of the Fiqh Council of North America.
Imam Suhaib Webb – Imam of the Islamic Society of Boston’s Cultural Center (ISBCC) and former education director of the Muslim American Society (MAS). His MB ties were featured in a December 2011 GMBDW report.
Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed – the GMBDW advises, “Yasmin Mogahed is also the sister of Dahlia Mogahed, formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama and close to Saudi-funded Georgetown Professor John Esposito, himself a long-time supporter of the Global Muslim Brotherhood. Yasmin Mogahed is a regular speaker on the Global Muslim Brotherhood speaking circuit.”

Imam Khalid Griggs– Imam of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, Associate Chaplain for Muslim Life at Wake Forest University, and Board Chair of the ICNA Council for Social Justice. A 2012 article in the Creeping Sharia blog highlights Griggs’ radical affiliations including being “a member of the Shura Council for the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA), an organization co-founded and led by Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.” In Jan 2015, the Washington Times reported about a call for a Wake Forest University donor boycott until the university addressed the 2010 hiring of Griggs and his radical ties.
Dalia Mogahed – Formerly a Faith Advisor to US President Obama , The IPT notes that she is “a tenacious defender of groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).” We reported on her scheduled June 2015 video appearance at the MSA National Retreat.

“The youth is very important, as parents, for us to facilitate the youth. And, we all want to see our youth to succeed to become doctors, to become engineers; but how many of you can actually say that you want to send your son to Jihad, to Chechnya ? How many of you can actually say that? [Takbir! Allahu Akbar!] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your child [He begins to sob] Takbir! Allahua Akbar! Takbir! Allahua Akbar! [He cries uncontrollably now, after a delay, he begins to speak again] How many of you can actually say that you want to send your youth to fight in Jihad or to send them to Azhar or to these Islamic Institutions to become educated?” [Emphasis added]
The Muslim Students Association (MSA) will be holding it’s National Leadership Retreat (NLR), June 2-7 2015 at Camp Lindenmere in Henryville, PA
MSA’s Facebook page states that the NLR is a “critical platform that” will:

Group claims pro-Palestinian students in US tied to terror
Clip produced by advocacy group Hamas On Campus purports to show growing Islamist influence in universities
From: The Times of Israel, October 5, 2014
A new YouTube video is targeting two of the most vocal pro-Palestinian student bodies active on US campuses, attempting to expose the alleged ties between the groups and the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as to out several of the organizations’ leading members as supporters and initiators of terrorist activities across the globe.
In the video, which was produced by the advocacy group Hamas On Campus, the narrator claims the Muslim Brotherhood has been bankrolling student bodies and effectively using them as proxies in order to spread a message of radical Islam throughout American universities. The video then highlights the Gaza-based terror organization Hamas’s connection to the Brotherhood.
The narrator goes on to assert that the Muslim Students Association and the Students for Justice in Palestine organization have served as hotbeds for potential terrorists, citing several former members of the student bodies who had gone on to join and establish terror groups in the Middle East.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: We recently posted a story about a Students for Justice in Palestine event, “The Hidden Genocide: The Story of Palestine. A Banquet.” scheduled for September 2014 at the University of South Florida (USF). It was to feature motivational speaker Monzer Taleb, a former Hamas fundraiser who had sung with a band** called Al Sakhra (“The Rock”).
It appears the The Story of Palestine USF event was cancelled but promotional material indicated the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), The Muslim Connection (TMC), Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of South Florida and the Muslim Student Association (MSA) were the sponsors. The participation of these groups seems to validate the Hamas on Campus contention that the Muslim Brotherhood is,” bankrolling student bodies and effectively using them as proxies“.
The Muslim Connection (TMC) is a local Islamist group based in Tampa Florida. According to it’s corporate filing, TMC focuses on “bring youth closer to Allah”. It is affiliated with the Islamic Community of Tampa-Masjid Al-Qassam (ICT). The Investigative Project on Terrorism reports:
Al-Qassam mosque was incorporated by Sami Al-Arian in 1992 under the name “The Islamic Community of Tampa, Inc.” Al-Arian pleaded guilty in 2006 to conspiring to make or receive contributions of funds, goods or services for the benefit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Federal investigators say that, at the time, Al-Arian was the North American leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
An initial member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Qassam Mosque, Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, has been the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Syria since 1995. In addition, Al-Arian’s brother-in-law Mazen Al-Najjar was a founding board member and served as mosque imam until 2001. Al-Najjar appears on the Islamic Community of Tampa’s annual reports up until 2001, when he was arrested by the INS for a visa violation. Al-Najjar was deported by the U.S. in 2002 for staying in the U.S. after his student visa lapsed. In addition, he served on the PIJ’s Shura Council, or governing board, and was indicted along with Al-Arian for providing material support to the PIJ. Since he was deported, Al-Najjar never stood trial on those charges.
Sami Al-Arian was a former tenured USF computer science professor.
One of the current directors of the Islamic Community of Tampa is Osama Kayali. Kayali is listed a business associate with several businesses of the Elkadi family. Former Muslim Brotherhood leader, Ahmed Elkadi was based in Panama City, FL during the 1980s – 90s. He later moved to Northern Virginia then to Tampa, where he died in 2009.
**The Investigative Project on Terrorism has a copy of one of the band’s performances (with a transcript) calling for death to Jews. Taleb is featured singing “I am Hamas” on a second video, around the 3:47 mark. In a 2006 Weekly Standard article, “HAMAS Rock Stars,” Dallas-based investigative reporter Todd Bensman described the band as follows:
It wasn’t exactly feel-good music in the conventional sense. Mufid’s Al Sakhra (“The Rock”) band crooned a gospel of death and hatred toward the Jews at Hamas fundraisers, while the collection plates moved through wildly enthusiastic Arab-American audiences.
Islamic State: Young British Muslims debate Caliphate
BBC Asian Network reporter Catrin Nye gathered young British Muslims from different sects of Islam to hear about their views on the concept of a Caliphate and what it means to them.
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Posted on the BBC on August 14,2014, the interview is about 9 minutes and well worth watching to get a glimpse of the mindset of younger Muslims (i.e. early 20s) living in the west. The panel consists of 4 men and 3 women and the views run from embracing the concept of a Caliphate to completely rejecting it.
… one can only wonder: whose interests are actually being served by this agency under the Executive branch?
US Government Promoting Islam in Czech Republic
From: Assyrian International News Agency
By Soeren Kern, Gatestone Institute, April 14, 2014
The Czech government has approved a new project aimed at promoting Islam in public elementary and secondary schools across the country.
The project–Muslims in the Eyes of Czech Schoolchildren–is being spearheaded by a Muslim advocacy group and is being financed by American taxpayers through a grant from the US Embassy in Prague. (The US State Department is also promoting Islam in other European countries.)
The group says the Czech Ministry of Education has authorized it to organize lectures and seminars aimed at “teaching Czech schoolchildren about Islamic beliefs and practices” and at “fighting stereotypes and prejudices about Muslims.”
But critics–there are many–say the project’s underlying objective is to convert non-Muslim children to Islam by bringing proselytizing messages into public schools under the guise of promoting multiculturalism and fighting “Islamophobia.”
The group’s website says the first phase of the project involves “analyzing the accuracy of the information about Islam in Czech textbooks on history, geography and social sciences, and mapping the level of teaching about Islam in Czech grammar schools and other secondary schools.”
The second phase of the project involves the implementation of a three-level program that will “acquaint both pupils and teachers with Islam and Muslims” and help them to develop better “critical reception skills” when analyzing supposedly Islamophobic information.

COMMENTS/ANALYSIS: The Czech program described above is one of many where U.S. dollars are being used to promote Islam. In 2012, Kern reported on a number of instances where the U.S. State Department was active in promoting and assisting Islamists through-out Europe. Some could even be interpreted as providing questionable political influence. A 2010 example:
In France, the U.S. Embassy in Paris co-sponsored a seminar to teach Muslims in France how they can politically organize themselves. Operatives from the Democratic Party coached 70 Muslim “diversity leaders” from disaffected Muslim-majority suburban slums known as banlieues on how to develop a communications strategy, raise funds and build a political base.
The French government — which has been trying to reverse the pernicious effects of decades of state-sponsored multiculturalism — expressed dismay at what it called “meddling.”
Also in 2010, the U.S. Embassy in Ireland sponsored an Irish/Muslim business conference:
The U.S. Embassy in Dublin has sponsored a seminar on Muslim entrepreneurs and business in Ireland. A main point of the conference was the need for Sharia law compliant financial products to be used.
The U.S. Embassy supported the conference as part of President Obama’s outreach to Muslims around the world.
Points to consider:
- Islamists have organized an extremely effective international propaganda machine using western resources including U.S. tax dollars.
- The Czech program and the recent U.K. investigations into Operation Trojan Horse indicate an emphasis on youth.
- Perhaps the most troubling – the extent the Obama State Department has become a tool to promote Islam.
The U.S. State Department’s involvement in promoting an Islamist agenda can be traced back to a rather naive attempt/program by the prior Bush administration to influence the international Muslim community. As we highlighted in CAIR Promo Tools – courtesy of U.S. State Department, the effort has since morphed into a pro-Islamist media campaign courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. Throw in the lack of cooperation/answers with Benghazi and one can only wonder: whose interests are actually being served by this agency under the Executive branch?
the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.
The information is still coming in. Most of the facts regarding the movements of the two Boston Marathon bombers leading up to the attack is weeks, if not months away. The media seems to be at a lost in trying to explain how the Tsarnaev brothers could become radicalized and their motivation.
The disconnect is the mistaken attempt by reporters and news contributors to link the bombing directly with political turmoil between Russia and Chechnya.
The term “Islam” is rarely being used, but “radicalization” seems to be making the rounds on the various networks. The neat labels of “domestic” and “foreign” are trying to be applied. Looking for an elusive “international cell” seems to be a media focus – and there lies the problem with the reporting.
Much of the Western mindset has a conceptual problem with three main factors of the Islamic Jihad:
- Islam/Muslim is not a racial classification. Muslims come in all races, shapes and sizes. To associate a Muslim as Middle Eastern is a mistake.
- The Islamic Jihad is global in scale and not based on sovereign borders. The only allegiance is to Allah and Islam.
- The goal is to destroy the basic foundations of Western civilization and replace it with a Sharia based system. It is about fighting anything that does not follow the tenets, ideology, etc of Islam. There is no negotiation or compromise with this goal.
As this story develops, the inability of the media to grasp and understand the above is repeatedly demonstrated. Throw in the concern of being politically correct, brings us to the 800 pound gorilla in the room … young American Muslims are being “radicalized” through Muslim student and youth groups in America.
What a shocker.
The media needs to step outside the box and throw out the domestic and foreign labels. These groups are financially backed on a global level. Support and guidance provided by domestic groups such as ICNA and ISNA. The five American students arrested in Pakistan were most likely recruited through youth programs in Alexandria, VA. ICNA has an established history of radical indoctrination programs.
One cannot understand the rational of Islamic terrorist acts without acknowledging the true jihadist mindset. Political correctness does not mix well with reality.

Tariq Ramadan to visit Detroit MuslimFest
April 4, 2013
DEARBORN – Tariq Ramadan will be the keynote speaker on April 11 in Detroit. He will address a Sound Vision benefit speaking on the topic of “Jihad within young hearts: Toward positive engagement.” The event organizer, Sound Vision, says that young Muslims today face tremendous pressures. These pressures arise from a variety of sources: adjusting to a culture different from their parents’ culture, living and working in environments often hostile to Islamic values, facing outright prejudice that results from the constant negative portrayal of Muslims in the media.
Muslim youth are among the least happy and the most angry among American youth groups, according to one Gallup poll; 16% of Muslim youth participate in binge drinking; and 29% use some other name to hide their faith.
Speaking for Sound Vision, Quaid Saifee said that the April 11 benefit offers multimedia presentations on these topics along with what is being slated as a MiniMuslimFest. It will feature a live Adam mascot which is the main character in the children’s Adam’s World series produced by Sound Vision. The Sunday event will take place at Burton Manor in Livonia, MI.
This is the first time Tariq Ramadan will be visiting the Detroit area. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently ended the U.S. visa ban on Ramadan allowing him to enter the country. State Department spokesman Darby Holladay said “Both the president and the secretary of state have made it clear that the U.S. government is pursuing a new relationship with Muslim communities based on mutual interest and mutual respect.”
COMMENT/ANALYSIS: Tariq Ramadan had his U.S. work visa revoked by the Department of Homeland Security in 2004. DHS spokesman, Russ Knocke explained this had been done in accord with a law that denies entry to aliens who have used a “position of prominence within any country to endorse or espouse terrorist activity.” According to Mr. Knocke, it was based on “public safety or national security interests.” As indicated in the above article, the visa ban was removed by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2010.
Ramadan is a Swiss-born philosophy professor and Islamic lecturer. His maternal grandfather was Hasan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). His father was Said Ramadan, a major MB figure in Egypt who fled to Switzerland in the late 1950s.
When addressing western audiences, Tariq Ramadan presents a moderate depiction of Islam. In 2011, The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report (GMBDR) wrote Ramadan wanted to reassure the west that, “concerns about the Muslim Brotherhood waiting in the wings to impose Islamist regimes in Egypt and Tunisia are overblown.” In front of Arab speaking audiences, it’s reported that he “he vents his deep-seated hatred of the West and his endorsement of Wahhabism, the most extreme form of Islam” .
In her 2004 book, Brother Tariq: The Doublespeak of Tarik Ramadan, French feminest Caroline Fourest analyzes Ramadan’s writings and audio tapes. She concludes that he is not a promoter of peace, but rather a “war leader” and the “political heir of his grandfather.”
To have Tariq Ramadan plant his philosophy and radical Islamist teachings in the minds of young American Muslims (a group the article identifies as being troubled) is disquieting. The MB agenda has recognized the advantages of working through young, impressionable minds in order to achieve its stated goals. The event organizer, Sound Vision has been employing this tactic for a number of years.
Event details: http://www.soundvision.com/TariqRamadan/Home.html
Side note: The president of Sound Vision is Abdul Malik Muhajid, former CAIR Chicago Chairperson. He is reported to be the national coordinator of the Bosnia (Kosovo) Task Force, an organization composed of 16 Islamic special interest groups. The organization is suspected to have ties to the Benevolence International Foundation, a fund raising front for Al Qaeda. Several of the group members were named unindicted co-conspirators in the terror-finance trial against the Holy Land Foundation.
